Let's say someone wanted to watch every game UT's wonderful football team has played since 1902. How do you think someone would go about doing so? I am sure there are a few years missing and some that are almost impossible to find. I would be interested to see how many years are attainable. Thanks in advance.

You aren't going to find any recorded games until the 20s or 30s, and even then you'll only find short news reel style clips, and not the full game. Even then, you won't find many fully televised games from any given year until the 80s, when the NCAA lost the TV rights lawsuit.

Starting in the late 50s, you might be able to find single camera game film produced by a team photographer. If UT has that, it will be in their athletic archives. You could contact the school's SID to see what they make available to the public. Aside from that, you're not going to find a whole lot.

I have some video (but not entire games) from every decade back tot he 30s. Tennessee had film clips of games in the 30s, 40s and 50s. Have some film clips of games in the 60s and 70s.

I have the Georgia game from the 67 season but it is chopped up some. Ward is dubbed over some of the game before ABC picks back up.

The first full game I have is 1970 game versus Air Force. Bowl game. Was broadcast by ABC.

I have some version of every game Tennessee has played since 1980 season. Either a coaches show, a short replay that was broadcast locally or network copy of game.

It has taken me 30 years to collect these. Many trades and swaps with people. Some film is from other schools, LSU, Alabama, Kentucky, Duke, etc.

I'm attaching a list of what I have except for 30s games. I have this film on DVDs and also have the files on 4 terabytes of hard drives.

Oh, I've seen Tennessee video library and technology room a couple of times. Not in last 4 years. I'm sure technology has been upgraded.

One year I gave Coach Fulmer a copy of the Penn St game he played in in 1971 broadcast by ABC. Tennessee did not have a copy of that game.

That is an incredible collection. What would it take for me to get my hands on the UT football section? I feel bad even asking knowing how much work you put into making all of that but I would love to have those games. I feel like I have only experienced a small fraction of UT football.

one of the things that's disappointing to me about the SEC website is the on demand video library.

i basically thought it was going to be a collection of every game that your school was ever televised. and that's not the case.

fans, like lwsvol, have bigger and more comprehensive collections than you can get from a place that you would think would have what you are looking for.

How did you transfer them from VHS to DVD's? I've got every Tennessee win except one or two since 1985 but they're all on VHS tapes

On my PC. Back then had a Sony desktop.

Hooked up a VHS player and played them on the monitor with a Sony program. Drawing blank on name of software. Recorded them to the hard drive as the tape played. then wrote it out to a DVD.

you can do same with Windows Media Player. Just hook up VHS player and play with WMP and record it to hard drive. Lots of different free software to then write out to DVD.

Great collection LWS. By the way, I work with Liz and David. Heard you were quite a fan and have seen a lot of your posts but didn't know you had such a great video collection. Thanks for all your informative posts.

USCGVOL, if you are willing to meticulously and tirelessly follow every available lead, you would be surprised at how much is available through youtube.com. Granted, much of it is fragmented, incomplete and of poor visual quality. For Tennessee's early history, basic resources which should be the foundation of your research include volumes 1 and 2 of "100 Years of Volunteers." The earliest film clips included in this centennial tribute to our football program were from Neyland's earliest years (1926-1928), including Gene McEver's 98-yard return for a touchdown on the opening kickoff of the 1928 Alabama game, which Tennessee won 15-13 and which firmly established Tennessee as a rising Southern power (fast-forward to ca. the 17:10 mark of 100 Years of Volunteers 1 - YouTube). If you are not already aware of it, you will also want to consult the biographical documentary film, " General Robert Neyland "The Man and the Legend" (General Robert Neyland "The Man and the Legend" - YouTube).

Other early games or seasons for which you can at least find fragmentary excerpts include:

1951 Cotton Bowl (vs. Texas. 1951 Cotton Bowl / Tennessee 20 Texas 14 - YouTube).

"1957 Sugar Bowl - Tennessee vs. Baylor" (1957 Sugar Bowl - Tennessee vs. Baylor - YouTube).

1965 shootout with UCLA ().

1965 Tennessee Football Highlights ([url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tth8dw4mHPM]).

1965 Bluebonnet Bowl (vs. Tulsa. [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XliC5uNDSKQ]).

1966 Gator Bowl (vs. Syracuse. [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vR5Chxl0owQ]1966 Gator Bowl - Syracuse vs. Tennessee - 1 of 4 - YouTube

1966 Gator Bowl - Syracuse vs.Tennessee - 3 of 4 - YouTube
1966 Gator Bowl - Syracuse vs.Tennessee - 4 of 4 - YouTube).

1968 Orange Bowl (vs. Oklahoma. Oklahoma vs. Tennessee (1968 Orange Bowl) - YouTube).

"Tennessee Football 1969 "The Year of the Championship" (Tennessee Football 1969 "The Year of the Championship" - YouTube).

"Tennessee Football 1970" (Tennessee Football 1970 - YouTube).

1970 slaughter of Florida (in Doug Dickey's return to Tennessee. 1970 Tennessee 38 Florida 7 - YouTube).

"Tennessee Football 1971 - "The Year of the Offensive Defense" (Tennessee Football 1971 - "The Year of the Offensive Defense" - YouTube).

Hopefully, these examples will illustrate just how much can be accessed from the public domain, even before turning to more archival resources.

Thanks. I had no idea that much was on YouTube. I will check those out.

Wow impressive collection... It felt really good looking back on our run in the 90s. I just wish I would have been a little older so I could have appreciated it more!

Oh the joy I’ll feel when we finally make a bowl game. And to think, WE ALL used to whine and kick if we didn't win 8 games. #brickbybrick

email me lwsvol@gmail.com. sure we can negotiate

May I email you also?

You have a couple of games I am interested in.

This is a warning for those watching vintage games for the first time. Political correctness was not a big deal a few decades ago. So, when you are watching the 1943 Sugar Bowl between Tennessee and Tulsa, color, 39 minutes, silent, you should know. Yes, that is a Confederate Battle Flag.
