1.) Trae Golden continues to perform absolutely pathetically on the defensive end. Ashton Gibbs simply owned him in the second half.

2.) Our rotations defensively are absolutely horrible. Pitt had a stretch in the second half with about five straight trips where it was either a dunk or a 5 foot jumper.

3.) Cam Tatum played admirably. He was the only person that seemed to want to rebound. 13 pts and 10 rebs is a nice stat line.

4.) Our defensive rebounding was atrocious. Absolutely atrocious. For Jeronne Maymon to play 27 minutes and record 1 rebound is a joke. Pathetic job by him.

5.) Yemi and Dwight Miller are constantly out of position on defense. They play hard, but their lack of understanding and experience is hurting us right now.

6.) Jordan McRae continues to be schizophrenic. 30 points one night, 5 points tonight. Again, not good.

7.) Josh Richardson and McBee provided nothing tonight. The bench as a whole was a no show. Combined, we had 6 points from the bench. Totally unacceptable.

8.) Kenny Hall showed some signs of life. 8 points and 12 rebs is not bad. Had some nice post moves and finishes. He can do better, but this wasn't bad.

9.) Jamie Dixon simply outcoached Cuonzo Martin tonight. Simple as that. He stuck to his pick and roll game; Tennessee never adjusted. When we had to have a stop, he calls timeout and they shoot a layup to seal the game.

10.) With all of the negatives, Tennessee lost by 5 to a decent opponent. That's the only bright spot in this one.

I feel it must be said that if anyone blames the loss on what happened in the last minute as the reason we lost you are an idiot. We lost because of our defense as law stated

Just wasn't a good performance...

and still could have won the game in the final seconds.

We didn't handle the last possession that well, but it wasn't the reason for losing. We got outplayed and outcoached. That's why we lost.

We lost because of the inability to rebound - allowing Pitt to collect 15 or more offense rebounds and score on 80% of second chances is unacceptable.

the game was over with 4 minutes to go. i'm still proud to be a vol supporter for basketball, unlike a lot on here that are down on them already. sometimes this crap on here just makes me sick. not talking about any posts on this one, but just in general. GBO !!!!!!

Where did our intensity on the boards go? That's my main problem with the last two games. The unforced turnovers are frustrating as well.

I was only able to watch the first half where both teams looked pretty bad. Did Pitt just pick up their play in the 2nd enough to win?

All the momentum we had out of Maui is officially gone.

We have to upset some teams if we want to have any chance at all of making the tourney. .

The rebounding really hurt us. I think we were pretty close or even leading at the end of the first. However, they really outperformed us in that aspect in the second half. I thought the players battled hard til the end honestly. They may not have been playing quite right, but they were giving what they could.

Picked up the rebounding tremendously I thought. That led to some easy shots.

We were in position off missed shots too. We just didn't hold onto the ball. The number of times we got our hands on a rebound and it ultimately went to Pitt was at least ten (I didn't start counting until midway through the first half). Hold onto the ball and win. Don't hold onto the ball and let Pittsburgh score 16 second chance points.

Defense was really, really good in the first half, but the rotation was slower in the second on both defense and offense.

We have too many guys that wait for the ball to come down to them, rather than going to get it. The player that is aggressive to the ball will usually get it.

good write up.

This team is gritty. The wins will come.

Not unless the defense improves dramatically. This team does not force turnovers and teams are getting great looks at the basket.

Pitt had 6 turnovers today, Oakland had 9. Duke committed the most of any opponent--13. Unless the defense improves, this team will finish around .500.

That's not the problem I saw. We were aggressive to the ball. We got there first. Then we dropped it, and it rolled to one of their players. Looked at how many of their rebounds were either picked up off the floor or bouncing out towards the three point line after going in and out of a Vol's hands. Then add in the five that were fumbled out of bounds, and the trend is pretty clear.

Not sure what you do to practice that, but we should do it.

Gibbs heated up a bit as well. Scored most of their points in the last 10 minutes.

Rotation is the huge, huge issue.

Standing, staring and lack of anticipation don't help you get there either.

It's inexperience and not understanding your defensive assignments. Too much thinking and not enough moving. That comes with time.

It should. Some kids are coached so poorly, so early in Jr high. We are talking about basic rotation. Some kids also play in aau leagues with other good players on the team, so they end up watching a lot as others go one on one. Imo, that's a big reason hop, cam, mcrae and others have such bad habits. A ball players feet shouldn't ever stop moving during a game.

It might have been even worse if Pittsburgh had its starting PG.

By the way, notice the beat down the Big East put on the SEC? Not good.

Thanks Law. I missed the second half (may have been a good thing),going out to eat with the wife and kids. When we got back in the car, we were down 8, but rallied. Based on what I saw in the first half, we should have won that game though. Hate to see these slip through our hands.
