Game Thread: #11/12 Lady Vols vs. Memphis, Home, Monday, 6:32PM, SEC+ (stream)

Incredible game! When your best player becomes unavailable, the outcome of a game is suddenly in question and possibly a toss up. If you get behind and have adversity some teams would fold. Memphis is a good team and they played hard.

Yes, coaches and players both made mistakes and had issues. That narrative playsout in this forum everyday. Tonight, there are too many positives to not focus there.

Spear was incredible in the overtime. Powell had herself a game. Puckett played herself into complete exhausion. Hollingshead played really big down the stretch. The team showed character and incredible determination. We found new leaders. Perhaps a tone setting game for the rest of the season.

I was glad to see us stop the three. They got a few layups because of how we closed out on the perimeter, but it was the right way to play after they hit 6 threes in the first half of the game. They ended up shooting 35 percent for the game. We shot 41 percent.

I missed the start of the game and missed what Jackson's injury is .I saw her with the boot on so it must be ankle ? How and when did the injury occur and how long is she speculated to be out of commission ?

She didn't play at all must be a practice injury. Day to day is the call lower leg injury.

We got the win and I am greatly relieved. I was too busy with a project to pay really close attention to the whole game, but I knew enough to be nervous as hell. Whew! OT!

Alex Fuller and her players really did themselves proud, and I hope their gutsy performance gives them the confidence to have a great season.

WE WON! WE WON! WE WON!

Onward and upward. It’s not going to get easier, but I’ve got faith this team will get it together.

Alex Fuller has that team playing aggressive defense. They are not good shooters, but they get after you and pressure the ball.

That makes no sense in that you are giving a 5 and 4 star coming in next year no credit at all. Not saying they will replace Rikea 100% but they will certainly help fill the loss.
In the last 20 years (no matter what their ranking ) have you seen newcomers ( especially freshmen ) make such an impact on the Lady Vols ? I can not think of any but maybe you can refresh my memory . Also Coach Harper does not have a history of integrating new talent and molding them into a team. Not saying it won't happen and hope it will happen but the odds are agin it .
I have seen rosy projections for years about what new comers impacts were going to be on this board and on the Summitt board and they have fizzled most every time.

Having said all that ,hope I am dead wrong .By the way what is going to happen in the post next year ?

How long do you figure ‘Kea may be out? 6-8 weeks?

What has happened with this team is that Tamari is really not able to play. Karoline didn't play well tonight cost us several points in about two possessions there in the third quarter. So the post players are going to be Jill, Sarah, and Rickea this season. If somehow Tamari gets back to her old self we become a lot better team.

Memphis a good team ...Didn't MTSU beat them by 20 points ?

You will notice I said they would not replace her 100%. But you gave them no recognition at all.
No one can predict but I would say Jillian, maybe Key, Stricklin and a portal recruit will man the post next year.

Same concerns, just another calendar year.

I often find your posts enlightening. And then other times it seems like you just copy & paste from your softball posts when it comes to our coaches.

It makes me wish you coached the Lady Vols basketball and softball. We'd recruit better than UConn & Okie, go undefeated and be in the finals every year lifting trophies.
