Game Thread: (11) Lady Vols 67 - (12) Indiana 79

It’s sad to watch an ongoing cycle of incredibly talented Lady Vols suit up in orange, only to receive mediocre coaching at best, and extremely poor coaching most of the time - BY former Lady Vols.

At this point, Kellie is selling a product that she’s not delivering on - even with a top five roster that doesn’t even look like a top-25 team right now. I truly hope the best for these Lady Vol student athletes who could’ve chosen to play for a proven coach who would be much better stewards of their talent than Kellie.

Have seen all I need to see from her, and am really hoping she is replaced at the end of the season.

It’s early so I’m holding out hope. But if it continues the way it looks like it might she may be in trouble. I love Kellie and really thought we were trending the right direction. She hasn’t put the pieces together with this group yet.

If she does, we will have a heck of a team. If she doesn’t, we will look like this off and on all season. Sometimes great, sometimes absent. Especially on defense.

7 seniors on that team plus a junior and sophmores that have played plenty of basketball....It might be time for a change in the lineup and put the younger ladies in or time for a change in the coaching staff all the way around....Harper had one of the best transfer classe's coming in along with a pretty good recruiting class....If big ass changes aren't made up there soon they won't even make it to the big dance this year...no athletic wings or outside shooters who can get open on their own.....smh

just my two cents...

Jordy was truly missed she is def a different personality and ability than when we had Rae out. Jordan is a true leader and gets everyone going.

With that being said i thought i saw some glimpses of some lineups we can provide.

when Jordan horston comes back i think jojo walker should come off the bench. powell, jordy, rickea, tess and TK should start. Tess creates driving lanes and room for TK.

Jojo could lead the second unit with BK , sara jillian and Franklin.

I started to see some cohesion but the thing that is clear is the hustle plays were going indianas way because we stood around. This isn't the transfers teams from last year this is TENNESSEE and we get on the floor and on the boards and HOPEFULLY they wake up! if not it's up to KELLIE to wake them up! she got on TK tonite and then she got more aggressive.

It could be a problem with both players and coaches.

The lineup is to win now based on experience. Unfortunately there is no youth depth to fill the voids after this year.

This on paper should be one of the most talented teams of all time.

Which is bad that we are playing like this but good in the sense that we know exactly who to blame if it doesn’t improve.

You can't be serious. This team is not even close to being one of the most talented teams of all time.

I'm disappointed, but am still confident they'll turn things around. In hindsight, the scheduling was overambitious considering the huge changes to the huge roster of widely different players the staff was tasked with quickly meshing into a team.

So it has been a rocky start. Nobody likes that they're not ready for primetime, to be sure. But I personally believe folks are jumping ship on this team and staff too quickly. As I keep saying over and over like a broken record, even before the first exhibition game I fully expected this particular group to take a bit longer than usual to gel. We're only three games and around one full week in. Talk to me again in a few weeks. 🙂

Still love ya, Lady Vols! Don't give up, and keep working hard!
Though I like your optimism and I hope they turn the table as well. But as you stated we are one week In and went from #5 to should be out of the rankings.

I dont see any reason for TK to start. Maybe coming off the bench will put some fire in her game. If not stay seated.

I refuse to watch the Lady Vols. I turned it over there 3 times and they were down 8, then 10 and the 12. I just checked and they lost by 12. It’s plain to see that Harper is not the answer. Her recruiting is an underachieving and her in game coaching is terrible. This team as her past teams look slow and under prepared. Go Vols.

I am underwhelmed by Harper's ability to take these players and make them a team. I hope she succeeds though. Maybe the team needs time to gel. That's the bright side when I haven't offered many good compliments over the last decade.

We all love the lady vols or we wouldn't take the time to post or read this message board. I'm disappointed in the coaching staff, not the team. These are 18-23 year old college students who are trying to find their way in the classroom, in society, in adulthood, and on the BB court. The coaches need to put them in easier/better positions to succeed. That's why they make good money...

Both men’s and women’s basketball teams look about as boring as watching paint dry. Both look to be under prepared and under preforming. It’s going to be a long winter watching or not watching these two teams.

We are not even close to "incredibly talented"--and we're not, it would appear, all that well-coached, either. We look like we've looked for years---mediocre, at best.

Three games into the season and already negavols pulling their hair out. I will hang in there with the Lady Vols. I have seen a lot of Tennessee teams struggle, then pull it together, and play really well through the conference and into post season. Indiana out played and out coached us. They made their shots which we did not. Pat would not be pleased with the "under the net" play or "long ball" play at all.

I don't think we have looked great at any point yet this season. Rebounding and defense were always the things we could rely on even if we did everything else wrong. Now we can't do those either.

We looked discombobulated early on last year against a much easier schedule so hopefully this year will follow a similar progression as Kellie shortens the bench. But the task is a lot more difficult this year with so many new faces. And I can't help but think there is more going on with the whiffing on recruiting and poor play. Several of the players have come back heavier and slower than last year. The only evidence of improvement over the summer has been Key's free throw shooting and maybe Horston's verticle. The girls are playing fewer minutes and getting tired more quickly.

Surprised Pissott didn't get a minute or two just to see if she could shoot us back into the game when no one else was scoring. I doubt she is ready for this sort of game, but she is ready to experience a couple of minutes. Marta and Walker are both getting too many minutes as it is.
