Game Thread: (16/19) Lady Vols at (20/18) Kentucky

KK, Key, Burrell and Davis were HW’s recruits. Very concerned I know they are freshman but Kellies recruits don’t look like SEC players. Am I wrong?

well remember kelly had to rerecruit key even though CHW landed her. She went and saw her at the Boo Williams tourney in Norfolk.

But i like salary and i think she will contribute. I will have to see how her 2021 class does to be able to make a better assessment.

I know her player development has been pretty good and she has turned some of CHW recruits into more consistent ballers

That was the problem tonight. Just look at the box score bench output. There's no one there.

Yup, you can’t go to the bench and get no help. remember you would have someone like Jordan come off the bench and sometimes KK which elevated the team at times.

The transfer portal may be a friend this off-season.

Yeah I think we can attract some more high profile transfers this off-season. We have looked like a much better team and Coach Harper appears to be fun to play for. Should help getting us in on some high profile transfers. Gotta hope we don’t have any major roster departures. Portal will be crazy this year I think.

Hopefully the incoming freshmen, at least one of them, can play decent minutes as well.

i wanna see us press with horston burrell wynn, miles, walker, and salary

I disagree we took the lead in the 3rd, But when KY went zone TN could not can't figure it out.
Pretty sure it's been figured out. Beat a zone by shooting over it. Problem is, we have no shooters. If I'm coaching against us, I'm giving the 3 all day long (except possibly to Rae if she hits a few) and Tamari Key shall experience the most tightly packed zone in history and never touch the ball.
Horston disappoints me every game she plays in. TOs and missed shots. Lordy .... you'd think she knows better.
To be fair, and this is rare, JH did not have a t.o. tonight and had 3 assists. Walker only had one t.o. Salary took up the slack though, had 4 t.o.s in just 8 mins of play. Rae also had 4 and Key had 3, which pretty much accounted for our 16.

However, the fact that Jordan's shot remains so elusive is starting to really worry me that she actually doesn't have a shot. We're going on 50 games into the cold streak. Walker is not helping any; between them they are putting up some of the crappiest shooting stats in the SEC. Unfortunately their line tonight was pretty typical of them - 5-21 from field, 0-4 3 pt, 3-10 ft, with Walker missing two ft twice! Clearly, this must change drastically for us to have a chance at any tourney run.

I love this team, I enjoy watching. I want to pull my hair out and throw the tv sometimes but we are heading in the right direction. If anyone can't see improvement from years past then you have not been watching.

Game day threads are starting to piss me off with the negavols and drive by sh!+ stirrers.

You have to appreciate the posters who alert each other to show up in the games when it looks like we'll lose. Their transparent absurdities brighten up the disappointing atmosphere. Thanks, guys!

Only got to listen, but proud of the comeback effort. The turnovers killed us and dug the hole in 2nd quarter, and the FT misses from the guards whom you'd expect to be best on the line also maintained the separation for KY.

I was hoping that our reserves would be able to make a difference, but that fairy tale ending didn't happen. It can be a learning experience for the young players.

No excuse for the poor FT shooting. That's one thing any player can practice on her own. I knew a neighborhood guy who set his h.s. FT record, and he would put up at least 100 FT a day on his goal at home. They need to look at the top freshmen in the country who are clutch and commit to getting better.

Also, they can develop a decent jump shot instead of relying upon layups and finger rolls if they focus on that. I hate to even mention "Big Stage" (yuck...that nickname), but what impresses most is that she does the "ordinary" things extremely well and extremely consistently. That's something I wish some of our most talented players would focus on.

They are at best role players. We will see how the next batch looks. But all of the girls in this batch have obvious deficiencies and will be exploited. I thought Salary might be more well balanced but she was flat outclassed tonight in speed and athleticism, and she is the fastest and most athletic of our last batch of recruits.

I would say Marta will make a fine 5th or 6th man when she is healthy. But I don't expect anything out of the others. Darby will be our three point specialist who never gets to shoot any threes. We seem to have a spot reserved especially for that sort of player and never utilize them or give them a chance to be anything other than a liability. But Kellie has recruited a couple of players who are very similar and will likely play over her.

It will be a race between whether Kellie can win enough by developing the players she inherited to entice better players to get here before her recruiting catches up with her and makes that task impossible.

Absolutely have to win games like the one tonight, and can't let opportunities like the one against UConn get away. Win those games and you look a helluva lot better to potential recruits.

This. THIS.

Suarez is a bust, period. No more excuses please. Let's just say she is unathletic and leave it there. Salary dribbles high and lets small guards steal from her, and makes bad passes and then puts her head down and forgets to play D. Walker...........................meh. Darby.....c'mon.

I'm not a CKJH basher, but her next class had better be a HUGE step up.

Yes, that's a great formula. We're not quite there yet, especially tonight going in with one hand pretty much tied behind our backs. But I really, truly believe we are several steps closer to getting there than we've been in years.

Do not blame COVID for this loss or Davis’s absence. This was a very winnable game with proper preparation.

Goodness. Ignore the awesome comeback. Ignore the rust from being away. Ignore the absence of our best player. Sure it was winnable but bashing the coaches for this loss is badly misplaced.

Key, Horston, and Saunders were all players recruited by HW that Kellie had to still win over. I can’t remember if Rennie was but I feel she was too. Kellie basically filled holes with her second recruiting class and the team had a lot more depth this year prior to the injuries. Her 3rd recruiting class, which is the incoming class, is the first class that they have had a few years to build relationships. I’m not sure how it will translate to college but all 4 of the young ladies in the 3rd recruiting class can flat out score. When I watch what we are doing offensively this year and watch film on these recruits, it’s very obvious were they all fit within Kellie’s offensive system. Each class seems to be getting better and better in my opinion.
