Game Thread: #19/21 Lady Vols vs. #21/19 Indiana, FOX at 6 p.m. ET on Thanksgiving

Thats why Geno has Chris Daily. She is actually just as demanding, but she has a way that the players can come to her where she will explain to them what he is saying to them without the sarcasm. She appeases them but won't let them off the hook.
Well we have Jon. Appease players, appease wife or stand there. He chooses stand there because we have no direction.

Not even competitive.....
Tess Darby stays in chase mode....So slow.
With Rikea perhaps we would have been more competitive....Not sure.
In any event, the LVs do not look real good right now....

Hard to understand why Tamari is not getting in shape. She looks a lot better on the court when she played last night, but can't run the court but three or four times and she is exhausted. Should be doing some high intensity sprints and also medium intensity jogging will get you in shape fast if there is no problems with your lungs. If still some problems should not be playing at all. We could get her back in condition and Rickea back this team changes dramatically for the better.

There's only so much you can do when your wife is the breadwinner AND your boss.
Which is why it works at previous stops but not here. Should have never been a bench coach, possibly a low paid analyst/advisor option but not a direct coach. Need a coach with no personal ties.

First and foremost, 1908 are you picking up any info re the lower right leg upon which our season rides?

Without that right lower leg, we have very little margin for error. And tonight there were a bunch of errors. Couldn't hit a lick at a snake from the field, bricking multiple layups, letting yet another 3 pt shooter have a career night.

We have to get more aggression out of Jill. The fact she taps and slaps at rebounds instead of grabbing them is a metaphor for her play. Our post presence is spotty to say the least, though Striplin had a good second half.

I thought Powell played well. She is a tough lil cookie.

Tess is obviously struggling and I'd probably agree more mins for Wynn is the answer

Without Rickea, we have to build more offense around Jewel. From what 1908 said, they may have been trying to do that but she's having trouble understanding the plays. Whatever the adjustment, we have to find her comfort zone again.

The impact a true elite player has just by being on the court is huge. Kellie has said a few times RJ's presence gives the other players a confidence not just in her, but in themselves. This is the same group that hung 91 on a legit top 15 Fla St team and looked good doing it. Which is why I said her loss is completely devastating for this team, not to speak of for her. Poor Rickea's college career has just been cursed. She seemed almost in tears late in the game when her teammates were getting their asses handed to them. Again, her injury is the absolute nightmare scenario for this team.

That said, I actually think they will bounce back and beat OK. And they must. This is probably the winnable game of the remaining three. Let it Be.

Without Rickea, the equation changes in so many ways. Indiana could defend differently, without having to focus on a major offensive threat. The rebound disparity would have been quite different as well. The LVs closed that gap later in the game but their grave had been dug. (Powell fought like crazy though!)

The team only had 11 TOs (same as Indiana) and their defense was solid in long stretches but they could not score in response to getting stops.

Jewel's struggles, without Rickea, are the team's struggles. I think at this early point in the season, she wants to be Robin rather than Batman and Batman has bum calf.

Puckett's ankle injury did not help. On her first few low post shots, I thought "what is wrong with her? She looks so off-balance." then the announcers mentioned the shoot around injury. Sara is not the quickest player either so he defense was really hindered. She looked better in the 2nd half so they must have gotten a better tape job on her but if she had gotten going early, like against Troy, the game could have looked different. Fine margins can create big gaps over the course of a game.

I am with you on the bounce back game.

I’m not talking about her personally but a player needs to want to get in shape and watch their nutrition as well. It’s hard work and dedication to get your body in peak physical conditioning.

Man UConn got blown out by NC State. You folks act like coaching doesn’t hinder players. It’s on tape! Stop spreading this ignorance about a lack of talent and constantly looking to go back and forth with folks.
Jewel Spear was scoring 20 and 30 pts against ACC teams with far less talent around her for 3 years.
This is a system issue.
Yes it is a system issue as well. Top to bottom the top tier teams have better players. We have to many slow footed girls that cant jump or defend at a high level. We have to many girls that run like they are wearing flip flops. Or jump like they are nailed to the floor. I would gut this team and all coaches and start over next year. There are only a hand full of players i would keep as role players.

Conversely, we can have a speed line-up if Kellie chose to use it more - Powell, Wynn (who is no longer an offensive liability), Spear, Hollinsghead + Puckett. (I think Wells and Powell on the court at the same time makes us too small against most teams).

To WinnerCircle (could not find the original post), Spear is missing wide-open lay-ups after making nice drives and getting wide open jumpers. That is a player in a slump issue more than a system issue. Once Rickea gets back, and Spear can be the counterpunch, instead of the lead punch, I bet she comes on strong.

Really don't believe Lady Vols are a priority to the AD I think to be competitive is just fine with him
They are, they are just not doing their part. We have a great arena, training facilities and all the bells and whistles to be successful. We don’t have the leadership. If the arena shows a lack of attendance it’ll be noticed more than what it already is. Kellie era is on par with Buzz Peterson except with better players.

Agreement she needs to be able to play more than few trips before running out gas.

Here you go, this year.

In this presser, Kellie said, “Right now, we didn’t handle the physicality very well. I still think we’re just too nice. We’re a group of nice young women. When you step on the court, you can’t have that mentality, you can’t have that personality,……..You have to expect physicality.”

For me, I think maybe in practice we really need to stop our own players from making shots, no gimmes, no open 3’s, being much more physical. Sometimes, to me, it looks like we’re practicing, not out to beat the other team using our strength, determination, and our height.

Hoping Kellie can remake our “nice” players into bad a$$es! NOW!

I hope so as well...
It's a process ,these players will have to change the whole mentality ...
That's not going to happen overnight...
