Game Thread: (20/21) Lady Vols at Missouri

The LVs are going to beat Mizzou so badly that the entire institution and indeed the state will collapse and fall into the sea never to be seen again. Given the landlocked geography of the state, the scale of this devastating defeat will obviously be seismic. I am posting this 100% certain information now so that all Mizzou lurkers can spread the word and evacuate the state before this Biblicaly scaled cataclysm is upon them. And don't worry about the LVs. Kellie will protect the team with a Wonder Woman like magic bubble that she generates using her heretofore unseen conjuring "stare" that Goddess Pat Summit taught her in a very secret ritual held in a cave below Clingman's Dome.

The one downside of this magnificent victory is that LVs will have problems in scheduling future opponents but let's stay in moment and cross that bridge when we come to it......
Madtownvol, didn't I warn you about drinking grape juice that has been in the fridge too long? LOL, very humorous post.

"Tennessee’s Marta Suárez and Missouri’s Mama Dembele can catch up in Columbia. Suárez, a freshman forward who is dealing with a foot injury that limits her court time, and Dembele, a freshman guard who has appeared in all 17 games for the Tigers this season, attended Joaquim Blume Institute together in Esplugues de Llobregat, a province of Barcelona. The Spaniards also were teammates in Spain’s LF2 League with Segle XXI Barcelona."

"Tamari Key now has 139 career blocks, and the sophomore has moved into No. 8 all-time at Tennessee after passing Teresa Geter (135) and Tamika Catchings (136). The No. 7 slot is filled by Nicky Anosike with 161 blocks. Candace Parker is the all-time leader at Tennessee with 275 swats. Key’s 2.78 blocks per game currently puts her at No. 1 all-time at Tennessee in that category with Parker at 2.5."

Less entry passes to KK and Key when double and tripled team. When players clog the paint Rae and Rennia should drive and take the shots in the paint not try to pass to either of them. Both Rennia and Rae made some key mistakes trying to pass to them inside when they had the better shot vs Georgia. IQ still not where it needs to be but far better than it was when Kellie took over.

Totally agree, passing in the paint that is clogged with defenders is asking for a turnover, but Rae, in particular, got stuffed 3-4 times in a row, driving all the way in for a layup. Both Rae and Rennia can shoot jumpers from almost anywhere on the floor. When the paint is packed, shoot jumpers.

Rae not pulling up for the short jumper was certainly part of the reason for turnovers.

Ha thank You ! I would like to see Rae pull up more and take that short jumper in the lane it`s there. Rennia will take what the defense gives her.

I hope she rests and heals her foot as any injury can have lingering effects. I also hope she takes this time to work out and get in game shape so she’s ready to go next season.

Driving the ball is Rae's forte but she can also shoot. I imagine she was told to drive the ball and that's what she did otherwise she could have shot anytime and anywhere. Throwing the ball into the post that is double or triple teamed and causing a turnover is what they used to do a lot and they need to get away from that level of predictability. It would be great if they could utilize the high post more but that post has to be able to hit 15 footers not drive it into an already contested lane that forces Key to clear out or jostle for rebounding position (which keeps the lane congested) while the guards collapse. Not the optimal situation. Marta could fill the high post shooters role but she is not at full speed. She is changing her body to get stronger and sometimes the body revolts a bit..... I love KK but she doesn't seem to be a shooting threat beyond the range of that nice hook shot she has.

Just looking at the sec conference standings. We are in fourth place with a 7–4 record. If we win out ? A 9–4 record is the best we can finish ? Do we want Kentucky or Georgia to win ? Which helps us ? I would like another shot at aTm .... 🤷‍♂️
I think Ky is the better of the two but hello against us lots of teams look better most of the time

It is puzzling why guards drop down so often when we have a lane protector like Key. Usually when we do that, we get burned from outside.

With most of our losses being extremely close...and the couple that were having leads padded when we had to foul...reducing the made threes could have made all the difference, even if we gave up a bucket down low.

3 > 2 in the scoring column. That's just as important, if not more so, on defense...especially since we're not a big three-point threat.
I'd say we have plenty of three point threats. They need a little more shoot the shot if it's a good shot. Open threes should be regular at this level.

On paper we should destroy them but! They play hard and can get hot so this game has me a little concerned.

A little nervous about this one. If we don’t dictate tempo from the start, this could be a nailbitter. We have to take away any hope from Mizzou that they can win this game. Can’t allow them to build momentum by hitting consecutive 3s.

Clearly, we’re the more talented team. I’m wondering how they will perform in a must-win situation.
