dont let howard have a career night!! keep her scoring in check and i think the vols have a chance. they better come ready to play tho

This is really the key. They go as she goes. If she has a tough night they really struggle. I don’t think teams exploit her enough defensively. We need to force her to guard tough all night. The more energy she expends on that end the better.

The game will come down to how well we defend. I hope were willing to take the ball inside and try to get shots in the paint and around the rim. They are smaller than we are and we must out rebound them and get the offensive rebound and put backs in this game. I think if we can hold them to 60 were in a strong position to win. I didn't think we had a great defensive effort against Missouri starting or ending the game. I think we can win this game if we come with effort and have some luck on the shots around the rim. These type games usually come down to who is making the shots around the rim and also winning the rebounding and turnover battle. I'll just say that if the good Tennessee team shows up and we defend and hold them to sixty we get out with a win 65 to 60.

I think we’re going to absolutely have to hit some 3 point shots in the first half as well. They’re going to try to pack it in on us. I’ll bet they dare Massengill to shoot the 3. If we can knock a few in that will open things up quickly.

It’s absolutely criminal that Warlick never offered Rhyne Howard. She stole money from UT.

She did offer her. It was just a late offer but she offered her all the same

Bradley Central grad Rhyne Howard already a star at Kentucky

Here are some short tidbits from the article but she was never coming anyways ... Definitely not a Holly supporter but she couldn’t make the girl come here.

KNOXVILLE — Despite growing up an hour from Knoxville, Rhyne Howard didn't aspire to be a member of the Tennessee women's basketball program like most area girls' players do.
Her mother, Rhvonja Avery, played at Florida and once hoped her daughter would follow in those footsteps.

Prior to her senior season, she narrowed her college choices to Kentucky, Purdue and South Carolina. She noted that Tennessee "came late," plus since her mom played at another SEC school, Howard grew up "not liking Tennessee."
"When they recruited me, it kind of changed, but I didn't want to come," she said Thursday.

She had a career night (SEC career high) against SC and they lost. I think the key is Howard will get hers but hold the others in check.

Yes, but I’m not sure we win if we allow them 72 points. If our bigs show up to play today and finish in the paint we might break 80 points. More likely a game in the 60s.

I agree that allowing above 70 probably means we lose the game. I think 60's is where it has to be and of course you hope we can play a game where we get many more shots up than they do through fewer turnovers and offensive rebounding.

You definitely have to stop the other players in the offensive negative. If you could get the other four to take 40 shots and only score 35 you can easily withstand someone taking 20 shots and scoring 25. I've never liked the one player concept as a winning strategy. Tennessee will become hard to deal with when players like Horston and Key become as much of a problem as Davis in their ability to score efficiently and get in the minds of opponents. If their other four all have bad games today I feel strongly that Tennessee win.

My hopes are simple - a poised, focused effort for at least the majority of the game with more assists than turnovers and decent shooting. I'd like a good game plan and player adherence to that plan. That's the kind of improvement I'm really anxious to see, then have it repeated and built upon. That's all.

Better bring the energy today home teams are really bring it Florida over Vandy and LSU getting bashed by 3 and 11 Missouri. The one thing I hoped Kellie could bring that Holly couldn't want intensity and effort so far she has done it half way she gets them going when they slack hopefully they will not have to be motivated much longer.

No,

cut the head off of the snake,,,the body dies
Rae and Jaz are strong enough to play her anywhere and Rennia and Jordan can keep the other two busy.

We got this

That to me is their next area of growth,,,when they spasm (be it ; offensive stagnation or aloofness on defense) if they can't turn it around themselves, wake em up!

If you need more than two timeouts to finish the game and you have more than two, you should have used them before you got to that point

They are not winning unless someone other than Howard has a big day and they have some candidates that could do that Patterson, Haines or Wyatt are all three point threats. They may win today but I am not overly impressed with their team and don't think they deserve their ranking. Common opponent is Stetson they won by 19 and we won by 27 of course they won that game without Patterson. If I knew we were coming out with energy to dominate the boards and lock down on defense were winning don't know what kind of play were gonna get. Some of the play in the Missouri game want help and some of the way we played for that game would.

I think if we really bring the defense like we can we can hold them to 35 percent shooting from the floor. Something like 21 of 60 and expect they make seven or eight threes that is 50 points. No more than 10 from the line would be 60 which I think is a total that could allow us to win today.

Or it could be like a worm when you get what you think is the head off and it actually multiplies.

I get what you’re trying to say but some players are just going to get theirs (you’re a TN fan you have seen plenty of players who were just going to get theirs becuz they are just better) I am saying don’t let anyone else go off. Last year she and Maci Morris scored 27 each. That was the difference in the game. If she goes off you throw everything at her to slow her down but you limit her teammates for sure.

If we keep our two biggest mobile defenders on her it still leaves the two most athletic defenders to quarry the little guards. And we definitely have a post presence in Key and a power forward in KK,,,the x factor for us is Lou. She will have to play the power spot
