That would be a game to watch! You got your women who play defense and your women who play offense. No mingling and jumping around run and gun like.
I tell ya (Shaking fist at the sky) the world has gone to heck in hand a basket since they the ladies start playing full court and running around all over the place helter skelter like.
And, when it seems it couldn’t get any worse ...a uterus hits the floor.
Everyone is due some criticism, so why not Jessie Rennie? She overplays the “team first” concept and passes up shots. That’s her weakness. That’s my criticism. If you ain’t scoring, every little miscue is magnified.
Shoot the ball, Jessie!
All this has me thinking more about Coach Kellie’s offensive scheme, which many posters think she doesn’t even have. I disagree. Everybody knows she likes shooters (who doesn’t?). We also know that we are big and tall. She has attempted to exploit our height advantage by having Massengill, and of course, Horston drive and dish. These little designs aren’t just chalked up and run to perfection every time, and thus our biggest hiccup - turnovers. Have you noticed most of our screen action occurs in, or very near the paint? ...again the emphasis on post play.
But, not JUST post play.
Many of our turnovers have simply been the result of coming in a little too hot. There’s another characteristic to those drive-and-dish blunders: We’ve had unguarded shooters ...because EVERY defense we’ve seen has been most concerned with our height, and of course, with Rennia Davis.
The broader point here is, our offense is inherently “creating shots!” For Jessie, Lou, Rae, Rennia.
So where it appears that Coach Kelli is placing a low premium on creating outside shots, the scheme she’s utilizing is designed to do just that.
And it’s working!
Execution, not design, is the problem.
So, all that’s required to create shots for Rennie is to get the ball to her.
Pomptly.
As we improve our offensive execution, we will “create” more, better shots.
