Game Thread: (23/24) Lady Vols 105 - Eastern Kentucky 71

Eastern Kentucky is on par with the kind of opponent most Top 10 teams have faced this season.
Coach Harper just did a solid job of managing the 1st half. Franklin, Hollingshead, and Striplin played good off the bench. Key stepped it up. Outside of South Carolina and maybe Stanford there aren’t any teams more talented than Tennessee. The rest of this season is about building team chemistry and staying healthy.
I’ll give Coach Harper the benefit of the doubt for now. She’s trying…

Watching the UConn vs Iowa game, neither is “LOADED” with talent as Top 10 teams. Both just are clearly well coached teams.
UConn in terms of size looks like a HS team.

I truly believe that the Lady Vols have as much talent as most of the top 5 teams in the country probably excluding South Carolina & Stanford, but the difference is clearly coaching..Those teams are coached hard & that is the difference between Pat & those they have hired to bring us back to where you should be..Yes, Kellie might have 11 ladies should could play, but a rotation like that isn't realistic to success..Kellie doesn't coach these ladies during the game, can't speak on her practices..I watched Horston throw the ball away 3 out of 4 positions & Kellie didn't bat an eye, not say a word...Players don't respect that...What they respect is when Pat scheduled Depaul so Candice Parker could play back at home, missed curfew & was rewarded by not starting the game & she was the #1 player in the nation..Until we decide to get that type of leader for this program, this is what we will be forever..When you keep messing up, sitting on the bench gets your attention & eventually the respect you need for this level

Striplin just knows where to be at the right time. Hustles, rebounds and makes shots. I know it’s inferior competition but she needs more playing time!
The problem on this forum is, half the fans want to give some subs (e.g. Striplin, Puckett and Pissott) more playing time. While the other half want to shorten the rotation, especially against better teams. Against EKU, it doesn't really matter how many subs you play. Against the top 20 teams, it does matter.

You have a point. In defense of Horston, each time she saw a play before the teammate she was passing to did. It wasn’t necessarily their fault but I wouldn’t punish a player for having that kind of aggressiveness in a game where they are leading by double digits. She has a killer instinct. I agree that Coach Harper needs to improve in-game management. She becomes a spectator too often during games.

The problem on this team is there simply aren't enough minutes to go around. I'm both halves, I want the rotation cut but I also want Striplin, Puckett, Marta and Hollingshead to play. Alot, in a row like their doing today. Sure can't blame KJH for loading up from the portal w such quality players, but it sure makes development mins hard to come by.
Horston just looks so smooth and confident this season.
I'm trying to remember if I've ever seen her shoot so well consistently over 2 or 3 games. I sure hope we can keep Jordan and Jackson dialed in exactly like this for next 4 months or so.

Good

I agree with that, when I speak of the team, not speaking about playing against the EKUs of the world...Would be a perfect time to let a player like Horston sit after making bone headed plays & keep saying "my bad" lol

But those mistakes have became habits not with just her but several players & shows up when down 10

And folks on here say Marta isn’t the truth? Former All-SEC freshman! She just getting back on track! We want round 2 with Gonzaga, UCLA, Indiana, and Ohio State!

Are you kidding right now? Not watching the game, right? No doubt, Jordan Horston has made a ton of t.o.s in her career. But if you're watching this game and the one thing that stands out about Horston's play today is her ONE t.o., then that's a you thing, not a Jordan Horston thing.

In 18 mins she has 14 pts, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. And that one life-altering t.o.

Interesting line up Miles, Strip Justine w Jordan and Rj. I'd love those last two to take a seat, soon. Don't take chances

I just realized after this game we'll be .500 for the first time all year. Hooray.

Good for KJH, she took Wynn out and coached her up after a couple of her wild child drive and pray shots. Even up 40, and with a player who pretty clearly isn't going to contribute this year, she's on the job!
