Game Thread: (23/24) Lady Vols 69 - Colorado 51

Actually, Striplin was not part of the group that let the lead evaporate. If you look at the posts, I posted at 8:47, Striplin and Justine just came in. Literally, 2 minutes later, timeout was called, and starters were put back in, and Striplin stayed in the game, and played very well during her 5 minutes of play.

The group that let the lead dwindle included Wynn, Walker, and Miles. Would have to go back and look to be sure about the other two. Hollingshead had 4 turnovers, she may have been part of that group.

And there is no reason at all for Wynn/Walker/Miles on the court at the same time. Where do you find offense with the three of them out there? 🥴🥴

....exactly why they need more seasoning under fire.....

The goof troop is just here posting propaganda. They don’t have a clue. B. Miles is the real deal.. it’s the staff job to develop her as a player. Powell is a true floor general… they need to give her the reigns to truly run the offense. This is the year!

Miles? The turnover machine that can't shoot a lick?

According to the play by play stats, Striplin and Pissott entered the game together with 4:53 left and the score was 40-59. In the next 100 seconds, the lead was cut to 11 (61-50) and a TO taken at 3:13.

So, technically my post was incorrect. The lead was 19 not 20 when Karoline entered the game and it only dwindled to 11 when Horston and Jackson were re-inserted. Those errors aside, I do think the general point still holds that Karoline remained on the floor after the Colorado run, which indicated she was not the problem.

Somebody (one or more) needs to step up. Every player was a prolific high school player who could score. Thats how they got discovered. Won't see many recruited who play exceptional defense but average 2 ppg. Wynn and Miles need more minutes playing at their respective positions.

Exactly. At this point some of these people just say anything to discredit players that are barely into their sophomore season.

I wasn't able to watch the game, but am glad for the result and for the apparent improvements. Before flopping about in a tub of exuberance, I checked Colorado's record. They are somewhere between decent and cupcake territory, with their wins coming mostly against certified cupcakes.

Given that record, we did exactly what a reasonable fan would have expected-pinned their ears back.

Adams State. Div II
New Mexico State. Massey rank 222
Jackson State. Massey rank 100
Louisiana Massey rank 157
Air ForceMassey rank 135

Colorado Massey rank 50

Don't know about Franklin status, but she didn't come back into the game. Hopefully it's nothing serious cause I did see her on the bench. I agree Hollingshead and Striplin definitely should play more. It's kind of puzzling why we don't see Striplin out there more. It seems like when she does get time on the court she produces and makes the most out of her minutes. Hopefully after this game Kellie gives her more time
Franklin will help us some against certain teams and hopefully get more healthy. But one time she had a player blocked out and colorado player just leaped up and rebounded the ball. Franklin hardly got off the ground a. Not her fault just her health situation right now. She just can't jump or do anything requiring an explosive movement. Kellie took her out then and put in Hollingshead. Depending on the situation I think you have to be playing Hollingshead ahead of Franklin. Franklin is really good when healthy but she ain't healthy so have to go with Key and Hollingshead mostly and hope by February Franklin can jump off the ground enoughto help us.

For further clarification, when Striplin and Justine came into the game, it was while a CO player was getting ready to shoot, and make, 2 free throws, which made the score 59-41, an 18 point lead for TN.

The timeout was called one minute and forty seconds later, at TN 61-50, a drop of 7 points from the lead after CO made their 2 free throws. This is what happened by TN players during that 1:40.

Justine:
1 turnover
1 missed 3 point attempt
1 block
1 foul

Miles:
1 turnover

Walker:
2 points with an assist from Striplin

Striplin:
1 rebound
1 block
1 assist

I also believe Striplin can help this team. Hoping she gets to play more on Sunday, but VT is after that, so she may not get a lot more minutes until the games after VT. Kellie has said we don’t see their practices, I can’t imagine how Striplin might play during practice. Maybe she’s one who plays her best in games. Don’t know when, but at some point, I think we’ll see a lot of Striplin play.

Strip had 3 blocks......

Did you see the Gonzaga game? In 20 minutes, Franklin made 3 of 5 field goals, 5 of 6 free throws, had 2 assists, 1 steal, 4 fouls, scored 11 points, and was our top rebounder on the team with 9 rebounds.
Maybe Kellie gave her a rest, or maybe she just wanted to give Hollingshead and Striplin some minutes, but Franklin can definitely jump and has explosive moments.

Actually, it makes sense that Franklin would have an off game after a strong performance. I have known several athletes who have come back from ACL repairs and flare-ups are common. The standard repair procedure is to take a strip of tissue from the patellar tendon and graft that as the ACL replacement. In the first year back, the patellar tendon can get very irritated and painful, as well the general stiffness and pain from the ACL area. So, Franklin could feel good one day and then be very inhibited by pain and stiffness the next. Recovering from an ACL is not a linear process. It is always two steps forward and one step back.

I don't understand why you need to preface your opinions by insulting other people. Why not just state your opinion and respond to others, without the name calling?

Yes I saw the Gonzaga game. I am her biggest fan on this board by far. But she used to play above the rim and at times now can not get off the floor. She sometimes can jump a little but it seems like that is even in slow motion. Her movement in the Gonzaga game seemed better gave me some hope. But literally the other night she could hardly get off the floor. With her it is never the lack of effort but sometimes her knee does not cooperate. Maybe it comes and goes some but when it goes I don't see how you keep her on the floor. Think that is what Kellie saw the other night and got her out of the game.

I ain’t compensating for nothing.
I stand on business.
In the meantime, I’ll watch the replay of the Colorado game and give a second thorough analysis of the game. If there isn’t a strategic starting lineup change soon then I’ll expose the facts behind the “why”. These youngsters coming off the bench are ready to take it to the next level!

Unfortunately ,I was not able to see the game as I was sequestered with family continuing Thanksgiving celebration and birth of new great grand baby on Daniel Island ,South Carolina.I have read about the game and it appears that some chemistry is being developed both offensively and defensively and to me that is the most important thing for this team to become a winner......playing together on both ends of the court with great energy and passion with some coaching mixed in.Of course such chemistry will need to be expanded to have success against good teams but one has to take steps before jogging and then running at full speed .

My hope is that this game is the turning point in this season

same situation and same hope

This game is chess not checkers.. that’s why you didn’t comprehend it at first. There’s no debating that talent is what wins games. Over coaching is detrimental to any success. Today and tomorrow TN is loaded with talent! Easily top 5 talented roster in WCBB. Rickea Jackson is the most athletic scorer I’ve seen since Seimone Augustus!
You folks can nitpick Marta all you want but the fact will remain her upside is the highest out of all the starters outside of Powell, Rickea, and Horston. Now Hollingshead, Puckett, Striplin and Miles are next in line in terms of upside. Mix that group in alongside Tamari Key and Jasmine Franklin right now in addition to the superstars Horston, Rickea, and Powell there’s not any reason this team should be turning the ball over at a high rate and going stagnant on offense. A lot of that stuff is from game management on the sideline!
This is not a rebuilding year. This is the year. You get UConn, Virginia Tech, and South Carolina at home. I’m expecting to check off three 3 wins if the Head Coach puts the best 5 on the court, uses the depth, and uses the timeouts.

No I comprehended what you said it just didn't make any sense and I didn't agree. Marta is a liability right now in my eyes until she proves me wrong. Everything else you said I can relate

The game has been well discussed already, so I'll just add that I was relieved Kellie put Jordan and Rickea back in toward the end. I mean, I watched it on replay and knew Tennessee had won, but still ... I was sitting here thinking that if she let much more of that lead dwindle before calling a darn time out to put Jordan and Rickea back in I was going to be ticked off. Everyone watching it live had to be thinking, "If you fool around and we lose this game, Kellie, WE ARE DONE WITH YOU!" lol She obviously wasn't taking that chance, thank God.
