Game Thread: (25) Lady Vols vs. (13) Kentucky

Coach likes players in the same position with opposite styles of play, has said it a million times about the Jordans. Likes throwing a change out there that the other team has to adjust to. If KK truly can develop into that role player behind TK, that would be an amazing development.

For all her struggles, I've never questioned KK's heart. I would so love to see her LV sendoff (if that's what this is) be one of big time contribution to a fun team.

That does seem to be CKJH's rationale. I still don't like that specific combo, though. In the first half, KY got back into the game with KK and Key paired. It did work a little better in the 1st half. But neither one are particularly good passers nor comfortable with the ball in the high post. Both a best down low. We just seem more vulnerable to pressure and have less motion in the offense with that tandem. That was about my only from this excellent game.

yeah in the case of the posts, the contrasting styles things works way better if they're not on the floor together. Less so with the Jordans at the same time since JH gets to play her natural position when JW is on the floor. For some reason, probably reason being she's the real coach, KJH seems to like Kasi and Key together in some carefully chosen situations.

I keep thinking that the Horston, Walker, Key, Davis, and Burrell is our most effective lineup. I don't have any stats to bare that out always seems like we make runs with those five.

When it is just Monday and your already wanting for the next Lady Vol basketball game.

Such a great feeling! Two seasons ago I was dreading them. I knew I was going to watch and I knew I was going to be disappointed. Still hurt every time though.

Last season I started to look forward to the games more. This season I can’t wait again!

I didn't care much when we played even though I would always watch. It was sad to lose to some of the teams that we were losing to was the all time low. When we lost to Vandy at home was the low of all time.

You are so right. That was the ultimate low point.

It wasn’t just that we lost to Vandy it was at home and they were terrible. All I could visualize that entire game was Pat rolling in her grave. It was the most uninspired game I ever saw played in TBA.

one of the worst performances in LV history . Ill never forget that game either along with that horrible loss to Ole Miss a few years ago in 2017 smh.

Last night I watched the post-game press conference of that Vandy game. I’ve never seen a head coach be more clueless.

I say this reluctantly, but I’m starting to think it would be a difficult job for any coach (even the ones that I wanted over Harper) to reestablish a healthy culture. The program was a complete mess.

Kellie is certainly doing a great job in year 2 of the rebuild.

It was painful.

I kept telling posters on here that we had fallen a lot further than anyone realized. From a culture standpoint we were at the bottom of the barrel. You could tell the players did not want to play for Holly and it was about to tank our recruiting completely. Had she been let go a full year sooner we would probably be in much better shape and wouldn’t have had as many transfers (maybe).

That said, if she’d been released a year sooner Kellie probably isn’t our coach. That Sweet 16 run was a huge resume boost for her. I for one am very thankful she’s our coach. I admit I wasn’t sold when it was announced. I was one of those who felt we might need some new blood outside of the LV family. She has proven me wrong so far this season though and I LOVE it.

My exact feelings, VolBall09. I wanted the UCLA coach. Kellie has been great. She has re-established defense and rebounding as the LVs forte.

I admit I was a big fan of the Gonzaga coach at the time. I'm glad that we went with Kellie and yes we still have some ups and downs to come but I think were back in the top of the SEC and now looking toward getting there Nationally.

I agree! I share your sentiments regarding what my wishes were for the hire. I’m more than open to being proved wrong, and this past week has been huge in allowing me to reconsider my thoughts about our head coach. I’m hopeful about the direction in which we’re headed IF we remain consistent.

Ironic that we are 3-3 against ranked teams and the three teams we beat are ranked ahead of us while two of the three teams that beat us are ranked below us.

I thought they would be a few spots higher. Regardless, winning will cure all.
I like the number 14 net ranking much more as it actually would mean something like a number 4 seed. Of course we like to get as high as we can in the popularity polls that is what most people look at as well as players.

Looks like we all had our own coaching ideas 😂😂.

I had crazy pipe dreams of Kim Mulkey strutting down the sidelines in Orange snakeskin suits. She was a little crosswise with Baylor around that time. She felt her program was being disrespected by the University after their National Championship. I thought we might have a chance to land her and I would have died if we did.

In hindsight that was never gonna happen and in nearsight Kellie is doing a fine job haha.

Mulkey can rock the leatherette! I was never a big fan of hers until Pat got sick and Mulkey said if UT did not treat Pat right she would be basically coming to Knoxville, hand someone her beer and get that straightened out. A friend indeed, I have have been a fan ever since.
Speaking of Baylor friends, where is BUBear?
