Game Thread: (7/7) Lady Vols 56 - (10/9) Connecticut 75

So, how did we compare to UConn on the stats?

We’ve obviously been working on improving our overall turnovers and free throws.

Turnovers: TN 15, UConn 14
Free throws: TN 19 of 21, UConn 11-17
Rebounds: 38 for both teams
Assists: TN 7, UConn 18
Blocks: TN 1, UConn 7
3 pointers: TN 3 of 15, UConn 12 of 26

Shooting percentage, huge difference.

FG%: TN 28.8, UConn 44.8
3 point %: TN 20, UConn 46.2
Free throw %: TN 90.5, UConn 64.7

We had more airballs from several players than I think I’ve ever seen. Missed shots, shots tossed in the general direction of the goal, a lack of assists, blocks, any area you want to name, can all be effected by fatigue. UConn rested at home and prepared for three days before this game. We have been playing tough games, mostly on the road. Were all their players some of the top recruits in the country, they were. So, our players need to be at least as rested as the other team to play our best, yes, and win.

It’s entirely possible we meet them again this season, and we won’t be playing in Connecticut, and maybe the circumstances will be more even, and we’ll play our best, then anything can happen.

GO LADY VOLS!!!

I can’t figure this one out. Early in the season I thought, wow, where’d we find her?! Now I’m thinking can we send her back.

Losing Green has forced Dye into playing more of a back to the basket role on offense. At times, she has to play the 5 position where she is a bit short.

UConn didnt have 7 blocks. We had a bunch of dumb drives into traffic and forced shots. Technically they were just dumb plays.

She doesn’t play back to the basket at all. Not once have I seen her back anyone down, as soon as she catches it, she pivots and faces up.

I admit, she does have game, but being a GT, you’d think at this point in your career you’d be more disciplined and not have so many bad games! Like she honestly should lose her starting spot to a freshman, which is sad. 🥴

possibly but Sara would have to know it's ok for her to shoot ... i wish she would just go to work and let it fly

I am starting to think the current issues are more confidence than chemistry related. It feels like the Green injury hit them hard and every player is trying to step up individually rather than as a team…which leads to more turnovers and bad shots…only compounding the confidence issues. The players have to regain that early season confidence but the coaching staff has to help get them there.

Kellie recently said in a presser she wanted to simplify things on offense since they were so in their heads and committing bad turnovers. But I actually wonder if this simplification is what’s leading to so much 1-1 ball. We gotta start running something on offense.

On defense, Key has not been nearly as aggressive since the Green injury, maybe in her head about not fouling, but it’s disrupted what was one of the nation’s best defenses.
So Burrell got hurt and we played better and Green got hurt and we play worse. Makes no sense

Kellie is a good coach, however she is not Pat Summitt. She said as much when she took the head coaching job at UT. Pat could motivate her players to good play performance, Kellie lacks this capability. She will restore UT as an elite WCBB team when she is able to recruit more players like Horston.

This could and maybe should be 4 straight losses. This team has totally imploded and fallen apart. Even Holly didn't have a stretch this bad. This is a total faceplant. This team is going nowhere. A complete collapse. Sad to see...but there's always next year I guess.

LOL , that is pretty funny. They won and should rub it in.

As far as using Evina in the post i'm glad she could get out of a "toxic environment" to put herself in a position to be a second round draft pick... best wishes to her and her momma. Hoping to see her and momma hayes claw each other's eyes out in the future 👀😂

I'd say cheers 🍻 to Geno and his win but we all know he can get grabby when he drinks 🥴

Holly lost 6 straight, but who's counting?

I didn't, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist.to figure out that those would be warm-up shots for her
I looked at Fudd's 3 point shots on replay. I think only one was defended. On a couple of other shots someone stepped up late to put up a hand and the rest she was wide open. I listened to Coach Harper's post game and she said that the game plan was to defend Fudd. Had UT been able to limit her 3 point baskets it might have been a different game.

UConn, per pre game presser, arrived home at 7am Thursday after a flight rerouted them to Albany NY after their game Wednesday night in Omaha because of fog. Sooo, your 3 days of rest and practice is not true. Unless you consider a 9 hour plane ride and 2 hour bus ride rest., it still doesn't add up to 3 days. They had the day off on Thursday, as usual after a game day.

Smartasses. Just like always. Didn't have a lot to say while they were struggling and dropping Ls, but sure as the sun rises and the sun sets they'll never pass up being snarky about Tennessee.
