Game Thread: (7/8) Lady Vols 70 - Ole Miss 58

Wait...Coach played starters till the end of the game when they were up by 12? Oh the horror. Or is that a "bad" coaching accusation only reserved for other teams? Or is it only a bad decision if a player gets hurt? Please, let me hear your excuses.

We were leading by 12 rite? How many points was Uconn leading when there best player got hurt? Over 20 points rite...Did I answer ur question

This is the Due I’ve been hoping to see. What a great game. This is Horston’s team currently, and it’s a good thing. Another poster mentioned no TOs for Puckett and Darby, but they ar won’t the backbone of this team. On inbounds, when no one is moving enough or open, it is Jordan who gets the ball thrown up to her and us to chase it down. The whole team leans on her and Tamari relies on her for most of her feeds into the post. At this point she is like a Didi Richard’s 2.0. Defense, rebounding, leading and assists. Oh, but she also puts up points. 20 of them today.

On paper, you would not have expected this year's team to be better after losing Rennia and really playing all season without Rae (who has been peripheral in her first two games back). But, we have significant improvements in JH, JW and Key, plus a great addition with Dye (as I said this spring when someone else was harping on Kellie can't recruit, that the transfer portal is now just as important as conventional HS recruiting). Overall, the teams defensive cohesiveness is just phenomenal and their offense execution has some a long way from the first few games. {It is almost like Kellie knew what she was doing in building the team with a defensive and rebounding first mindset].

Some talk about Tess, I was predicting her to be a key contributor even when she some statistically poor outings in the first few games. Why? She is a really smart player. She reads the game well, understands what she can and can't do (and how to compensate for her weak points and she has a great shooting stroke). Her positioning is always spot on and she is good defender who almost always forces quicker players to the help side where Key awaits to end all hope ye who enter here. She is clearly finding her confidence. In this game, Tess not only hit some big 3s that broke the game open but she grabbed some rebounds and got to the FT line to boot. Puckett is another nice addition with a lot if upside but she not reading the game as well as Tess and gets caught out defensively (which again is par for the freshman course). And Brooklyn Miles, she is our press breaker and plays with an incredible degree of poise for a freshman (in other words, another really good recruit).

Honestly, if you had told me that Jordan Walker would not score and Key would have only 6 points and 1 block (plus Rae being 0-3), I would have expected this to be a closer game but the LVs smothering defense and their ability to get points from Jordan, Dye, and Tess turned this into a comfortable game (even with Ole Miss going to the hack and grab strategy in the 4th quarter).

Well said. We also had 22 turnovers. This team has such a high ceiling.

Ole Miss was a very good team for Tennessee to play at this time because Vandy runs the same kind of defense in a lot of ways. This was great preparation for that game coming up. We did a great job on the boards against Ole Miss in every quarter but the third. Coming up we have to do an even better job of pounding Vandy on the boards would love to see us have a 20 plus offensive rebounding game. I expect a big game out of Key this is the type matchup where she should dominate. A road win at Vandy would give us three SEC road wins on the season. I projected we would get four road wins before the season began so throw that out the window I can see a much larger road win number now.

When the other team are pressing every second of the game and won’t even let you dribble out the clock to finish the game .,,,, 🤔. You play hard till the competition stops pressing and relinquish the obvious loss ! JMO

Just four starters Looney 2012. Why don't you find some place else to troll since that is all your here for.

There was a brief moment in the game where Brooklynn got switched to Shakira😂😂View attachment 427243

Might be wrong but seem to remember BK getting caught switched up on Austin, and the latter seemed to have a healthy respect for BK's active hands. I expected Shakira to simply rise above her with a jumper, but she passed it out to a teammate. Don't remember who was on interior D at the time.

And it's not solely the fact that your starters closed out the game, it's that they played 35-40 minutes in a blowout.

Did you watch the game ? Obviously not …..
The second half was a dog fight for all 20 minutes! Ole Miss. cut the lead to ten points and were fouling unmercifully on purpose! Jumping under our shooters after they had already jumped into the air and flopping under our players on purpose trying to draw fouls …. They were even holding and any other devious means to play girly basketball….. Nobody is gonna want to play this team because of the way they play ! Arkansas’s mens team used to play what called “ 40 minutes of hell “ type of basketball. I hope we never see this team again until next year ! JMO

zolman was nore than a short shorter. she drive to the basket. good passer i think she played point some. i kelly she took care of the basketball. and she was good on defence too. she was way better than spot shooter!
Zolman could not guard anybody but she could score. I think Darby is a better defender now than Zolman ever was. The improvement in Darby's defense has been much better than her improvement on offense. Saved two baskets yesterday with steals and has shown a lot more ability to stay with the player she is assigned to when it is someone she should be reasonable expected to guard. I really like where Darby is headed if she can keep up the improvement she has shown since game one of this season. I would like her to develop to the point where she can drive and get fouled by her junior season. She is about automatic from the free throw line.

I'm talking about the UConn game in which Bueckers was injured...

Which starters were in at the end of the game? I didn’t get to see the game.
Key back in with four minutes to go after sitting out first six minutes of fourth quarter to replace Green, Horston, Dye in with Key four minutes to go to replace Puckett, Walker was in and bench player Miles was in to finish the game.
