Game Thread: Lady Vols 52 - USF 49

I think I saw Puckett take Darby's starting job tonight. Puckett wasn't much on offense tonight but she played some really tough defense. She doesn't turn it over and neither does Miles so only 2 for 7 from the field but solid defense and didn't hurt the team with turnover. Wynn made 2 baskets in 3 attempts had one bad defensive play which Key cleaned up for her. So freshmen tonight 4 for 10 which is a higher percentage than the entire team shot.

Puckett is a coaches player. You can see her do a lot of little, important things if you take your eye off the ball and just watch her. Given that she's just in her early freshman season, I'm guessing she'll keep getting better. I don't know about her taking Tess job away, Tess was just not getting any open looks on the perimeter because of their defense, so there was no point in playing her if we could get more inside production from Puckett.

One thing I believe if the top ranked players would come here we have the coach that could lead them to a title. It is obvious that we run very good plays on offense the players just don't execute the shots enough. They execute much better on defense. I bet we work on offense all week getting ready for Texas.

Actually he is right. .Key is the biggest player on the floor ..should have a 20-20

Actually he's wrong, and so are you. Expect much? 20/20 against a top 25 team because you're a bigger big? 37 minutes/10 pts/10 reb/6 blocked shots isn't good enough? She isn't a scorer, and never has been. She's a defensive player first, and always has been. Appreciate her for who she is, please stop criticizing her for not being who she isn't.

Bottom line? USF flew into Knoxville convinced they had a very, very good chance of stealing a win against a ranked opponent on the court named The Summitt. It would be a win they knew they'd remember for the rest of their lives. Afterall, over the last decade other lower-ranked, or even UN-ranked, teams had done that very thing.

But they didn't. They'll fly back home with their first loss, and Tennessee moves to 3-0.

That's it. NEXT!

Keys final stats usually shows she played a lot better than she looks at times. It is deceiving. I just get frustrated with the missed wide open layups by her and some others. When you are the tallest player on the floor, which she usually is, you should make your layups is all I'm saying.

Because of the three games in six days there were no actual practices after the first game. Kellie said they would only do walkthroughs. This week will be their first chance to practice offensive sets w/o Rae.

If we're failing to get them, then how come we have her?

Serious question, does that make any sense as a comeback, even to you?

Because you are acting like there hasn't been months and months of conversation about Kellie's inability to reel in these sorts of elite players vs. Warlick's ability to get them. And you are acting like that has not been a sore spot for you that you have tried to disprove. Do you really have that much trouble understanding, and following along with the conversation despite nearly every other post being about that subject and you being a vehement participant in those threads? Because if you do, you might want to consider being less pissy since it will keep you from embarrassing yourself like this over and over again.

Do you have anything to say that makes sense or addresses anything I have said, or is it all just non sequiturs like that one where you can't put even the simplest of inferences together to understand the point?

And they would have gotten it against Holly I think because her teams would panic. That was a hallmark of her squads. Kellie's keep fighting. This level of play won't cut it, but it is better to learn our hard lessons coming off wins than losses.

Darby did nothing to help. She stayed stationed 90% of the time on one side of the floor. Very frustrating watching one defender just stand there because Darby didn’t make her work any.
