Game Thread Lady Vols at Arkansas

I'll take 10 wins in a row anytime. Including 4 raked teams. Not every game will look good, it's about did you figure out a way to win

10 wins in a row is special no matter how you get them. The team could have easily lost the game, but they found a way to win. The first 28 minutes was not pretty but the last 12 turned into a thing of beauty.

Struggling to hit 60 against a very poor team. It reminds me of the offense CViv usually runs at Rutgers. The team needs to hire an assistant coach who can teach offense.
Can't believe I just read in Knoxville paper that Holly is quoted as saying "I told the team to stop shooting the threes" and Coach Law was telling Ariel to starting shooting the three with more confidence! Who is in charge here! No wonder Holly does not seem to know what is going on!

Energy was the problem today for the first thirty minutes. We were getting beat to lose balls, getting beat on the boards, and making some unforced turnovers. I don't blame any of this on Holly she was working them hard from the sideline and they were not responding. When Massengale got hot in the last 10 minutes and Holly went to the zone it was the difference in the game. Holly seems to be working hard to make this a good team. She has them moving the ball better but energy is something the players have to bring. On the road they have not been able to do it for a forty minute game.

I agree with your assessment. This game was a classic "let down game" after the high of Texas A&M. The team did look flat. I am not sure why they were shooting so horribly at the outset (lingering fatigue?) but the LVs missed many, many wide open shots. The offensive scheme was working fine, the execution was not. Had they hit some early shots and gotten up on Ark by double digits, which could have easily happened during that long, long 2 to 4 run, I think the game would have looked very different.

As it evolved, you could see the ineffectiveness on the offense was negatively impacting their defensive energy. Ark won way too many loose balls and offensive boards. Once Massengale got hot, the LVs got that boost that comes from sensing they could win. I agree the switch to zone helped a lot too. The LVs did not seem ready to play an intense man-to-man. In fairness, they were effectively missing Graves and games like these is where Jones absence is most noticeable.

But, they got a win under adverse circumstances and did not let it comes down to a last second play.

Every team has to have some ugly wins and any win is pretty....

She also stated that Ariel always have the green light and is never one of the players that they tell not to shoot.

Holly's other point was that she wanted the team to get more aggressive going to the rim. And in the second half, they got Ark. in foul trouble by attacking to the rim.

Ariel's threes were huge but it also helped that the LVs got Ark in the bonus early.

I am a fan of excellence, Vol or Lady Vol, long as it's Big Orange, I like it.

10 in a row is just barely a good start, imho
