Simple make shots and press them... Kentucky cannot handle the press Tenn has a taller and more athletic press compared to Auburn and Ole Miss... I need the Jordan Reynolds from the OSU and ND to show up I say LV's win

In which game did Cooper have "her shooting eye?" I hope you don't mean the last game against Vanderbilt when she shot 6/12 (50%). There are 8 players on the UConn roster who are shooting better than 50% for the entire season. Notre Dame has 6 players and Maryland has 8 players that are also shooting over 50% for the entire season. All 22 of those young ladies would consider 50% shooting to be an off night that would bring their stats down. Are expectations for Cooper so low that anyone would applaud her performance against Vanderbilt? She also had only 1 assist vs. 3 turnovers. Not very impressive for a point guard, especially against an unranked cupcake like Vanderbilt!

Good Good man, do you honestly think 50% is low expectations or not impressive? Comparing her to a handful of players that shoot 50% serves to illustrate how few players actually accomplish it.

There are over 4000 Div I players. 80 of them shoot 50% or over. Three of them are from Uconn and one from Notre Dame. Source: NCAA® National Rankings

(Qualification: Minimum 5 made per game and players must play in 75% of their team's games).

Of those 80 shooting over 50%, 18 of them are classified as guards.

If Cooper joins that club of 18 from here on out I predict you'll be just as happy as the rest of us.

Cooper has shot poorly all year--and given that she is not especially tall and doesn't have a pretty jump shot (she's got the old push-shot motion that I'm shocked high school coaches still let kids use) and is really more of a dribble-penetration guard, I would not count on her shooting 50 percent again. Warlick seems to have this weird thing about playing Cooper, but then HW isn't terribly astute.

I really don't get all this focus on "pretty" shots. Reynolds, Carter, Middleton, and Dunbar all have really really pretty shots and all are shooting less than 40%. Carter arguably has the prettiest shot in the history of LV-dom...and is shooting a miserable 37%.

The object of the game is to get the ball in the basket. I don't care if they look like the three stooges doing it. For all we know, Cooper's poor percentage is because the coaches are actively trying to change her shot.

It isn't the form so much as when the shots are taken and from where on the floor.

I beg to differ, but the announcers in the last game called it a "shot put style." Reynolds does the same thing but with her elbow sticking out a bit more, and neither of them are great shooters.

I remember when Shannon Bobbitt debuted I worried about her push shot-- how will a 5 2 player ever get that shot off against taller opposition? It seemed like it would be easy to block. But no one dared press Bobbitt or else she would blow by you. She hit lots of clutch 3s for the LVs. Defenders also have to respect Cooper's quickness and so, I don;t think the push shot is going to be that much a liability. There is no reason to believe that it is inherently a less accurate shot; the problem is that the release is low. But if you have space, that is not an issue.

when cooper learns she can't drive to the basket through a packed in zone and shoot 10 to 12 foot jumpers she will start to meet preseason expectations

The important difference is Bobbitt was actually an excellent 3-point shooter that the opposing team had to guard. If I'm an opposing coach, I give Cooper all the perimeter shots she wants....

Well not initially, Bobbitt struggled with her shot quite a bit during her first season and there were more than a few fans who wanted Summit to go with Cait McMahon as the main PG (not realizing how bad her knees actually were). However, Bobbitt started to adjust to the pace of the D1 game and started hitting shots/making plays during the LVs tournament run; then she was freakin fantastic in her 2nd year.

Of course, Cooper is a different player but I would not rule out the possibility that she too could become a much more consistent outside threat, maybe even this season.

Here is the difference Bobbitt was as threat on both ends of the court. And as UConn Geno said pick your poison, if you guard her to close she will go by you, And if you leave her open she will knock down the three. :mf_surrender:

Your recollection of this is very different from mine. From Bobbitt's first game in orange there was no question from any rational fan who the team's point guard was. Yes, I'm sure there were a few fans calling for Cait... the same fans calling for Dunbar now....

And speaking of point guards, Kentucky might be without theirs tonight. Janee Thompson is listed as questionable after spraining her ankle in the Ole Miss game Thursday. Big blow for the Wildcats, even if she plays you have to assume she will be very limited. No excuse for Tennessee not to win this one....

I didn't expect the LV's to beat Vandy. And I certainly didn't expect Kentucky to lose to Ole Miss. This could be the game where the LV's turn the season around. I'm actually optimistic about this game, which could be the start of some really good things.

The three point line will decide this game. We need to come out and make some three and prevent them from making any. On paper it looks like we should handle this team inside but that hasn't happened with a lost of lesser opponents this season. Big game for us hopefully we'll come to play.

They have a very short roster. They play 8 players with one guard coming off the bench the other 2 are forwards. If im holly, i want an uptempo game but i also want my players to attack... not just guards but posts too. Make the official make a call. The key to this game is also limiting the play making of epps, if graves and Russell can out work Akhator on the glass i like our chances

Yall are so negative. We're struggling WE KNOW! I applaud fans that are looking for some positivty. Its time to uplift the girls and support them. The season is far from over,if they get hot/gel/peak at the right time with the talent they have they could go far! Lets start encouraging the girls. There's nothing wrong with constructive criticism but we on this board seem to lack the ability to do that.

Personally ND, Maryland , and UCONN, WGAS!!!! It is not only the fans that have to be positive but so do the coaches. Holly needs to quit saying they are not following the plan. To me that is not a positive, that is pointing your fingers at the players and not admitting it is up to the coaching staff to insure players follow the plan. Saying I don't know what to do is not an encouragement for confidence and positive recognition.

I admit that sometime we go overboard on this site in expressing our frustrations over the direction of this team but, what has Holly done to make fans see light at the end the tunnel of downward spiral? Izzy, Massengale and Burdick were vocal leaders on the floor, where are this team's vocal leaders? They were also aggressive players, which is missing with this bunch. They do not play with a sense of urgency. Yes the season is far from being over, but when is the third best group of college women basketball players(according to those who think they are in the know) going to start playing like the preseason prediction? If we are going to, we need to start now and not after we fall out of the top 25. Right now we hold the record, 561 consecutive days of being in the top 25. Let's pray that the coaches and players have enough pride to continue the record started by Pat Summitt.

Bobbit turned out to be a great point guard because she could hit the three and she was aggressive in her play. I remember the last time we played UConn she hit 4 threes in that game. She also lit it up against Rutgers in the title game.
