Game Thread: Lady Vols at LSU

We really played some bad defense on Pointer today and always every game we've ever played she goes off.

We need to get our ft shooting under control

It’s been much better. The problem was we had the wrong players at the line. We needed to have the ball in Rennia or Rae’s hands. That’s on them. They have to go get the basketball in those situations. Kasi is not the player we want taking high pressure FTs in a 1 point game. I thought Harper should have used her final timeout when Kasi got that rebound. Would have saved us the turnovers from Burrell as well.

Not sure why you take a timeout back to Knoxville in a 1 point game.

They won but they are not going to beat any of the next 3 teams. I know someone will say I am a doom and gloom, but I am realistic. Davis had a poor game once again. She just does not have the killer instinct of a Rhyne Howard or Khayla Pointer.

I'm delighted to win down there that makes for a promising season going forward. We never play well down at LSU. We lost a game down there when Holly was coach when a player fouled with no time on the clock.

Yes. I have noticed Harper does not like to change defensive strategy mid game. We had no answer for her though. We needed to go to a box and 1 and deny her the basketball. Zero other players created their own shot for LSU tonight. It was either Pointer scoring off the drive or setting up a teammate off the drive.

Yep. As Pointer goes, so goes LSU. It was frustrating to see no clear adjustments to shut that down. She knew she couldn’t be stopped too.

We got the win, though.

It honestly depends on what team shows up. If we play with a desire like we did against Arkansas we have a great chance to win all 3. If we allow teams to dictate like we allowed LSU to do tonight we’re gonna have a long season.

This was the exact game LSU wanted to play, offensively and defensively. We didn’t do anything we wanted to do tonight except win by accident.

Kellie just gave a fun fact. During her years as a player that included 3 nattys, she said TN never won at LSU.

Looking back in this thread quite a few posters predicted a runaway win.I said that it would be a grind it out game and we would fortunate to win it.LSU knows how to defense almost anyone especially the Lady Vols.

Thought we should have gone to a 1-3-1 and a 2-3 zone ( and switch it up ) to stop the easy drives to the bucket in 3rd quarter.Missing free throws and turnovers have been a bane for the Lady Vols for several years and today they were absolutely LUCKY to win.

19 turnovers I knew it was high they really disrupted our offense people got caught with the ball in their hands picking up the dribble and panicked.

We won but only by the hair on our chinny, chin, chin. Burrell showed up but Davis simply did not. Most of the game we were lackadaisical. Pointer looked as though she was on the Wade watch list. She misused and abused us in the paint. I am glad she did not make all of her free throws. We just do not seem to be able to get past being a turnover machine. In this game we played down to our competition..

They were bumping Davis on a lot of her shots no call. They got away with a few fouls on Davis today especially in the fourth quarter.
