Game Thread: Lady Vols at LSU

They were hot in the first half, but it’s easy to shoot 60% on open layups. Percentages generally don’t lie. I suspect we still win by double digits but this is ugly so far.

Exactly on the 60% on open layups. And I agree with your prediction.

Only one word for our defense......porous. They're getting shots from wherever they want them.

We need the real Rae to put in an appearance, and we need to make our foul shots. If the game stays this close, those 4 misses could bite us in the ass.

Really horrible play by us to have a one point lead. Defense got a little better but overall this has been a weak performance.

Remember is a early post before the game i said Rae forcing her way to the basket was not gonna work and it has not so far. Rae needs to take what the defense is are gonna give her, And also play some defense.

We can be grateful this one wasn't televised in prime time.

Regardless of outcome, don't think I'm going to lose sleep tonight staying up for the game replay.

I wouldn’t. I’ve watched the Arkansas game a few times now. So fun to watch when they play hard. When we play like this it’s painful. No urgency on either end in that first half. No pride.

Pointer is 5’3” on a good day and 100 lbs soaking wet. She should be so afraid to pass the free throw line against us it isn’t even funny. All our bigs have to do is get to the spot and literally stand. She shouldn’t get another layup in the second half. If I were Kellie I would be counting the stadiums they’re going to run based on how many uncontested layups LSU gets in the second half.

Public opinion means nothing. Just Win conference game. We are still building this team and we are not ranked. So yes just win even if its ugly. In CHRIST Alone

It means a lot in terms of NCAA seeding and confidence for the players. Hard for the fan base to get 100% behind them, which they very much want, when they play inconsistent basketball.

They need to trap Pointer everytime she get the ball make her give it up to someone else.

Yes. Just deny her the ball. She’s the only reason this is a game. She has scored or assisted on almost every basket they have. No reason she should have any success against us. I don’t care how fast she is. She’s too small to be allowed to score at the rim. Period.

Put Emily in there and have her send her shot to mid-court. I’m OK with a couple hard fouls on her. She needs to be thinking twice about entering the painted area.

Is this gonna be a thing where we choose between her and Jaloni Cambridge if they are both interested ?

Do they play the same position? Are they the same size? i don’t know much ... i know it will depend on who we get in 22’ and 23’ but still.
oh yay...we’re talking about Jaloni Cambridge now/already? I’m close friends with the family and have went to several of her games over the years... As a 6th grader she has NCAA MENS BBALL level ball skills. She is lightening fast and an incredible slash and scorer. She’s such a sweetheart too and incredibly respectful.

I take in the higher profile tourneys, yes. Anything I hear over the summer, I will gladly share...Unless told to me in secrecy (which often happens). I know I am not staff, but I am a TN influence, whether they want me to be or not and I will continue to build relationships with families, players and AAU/exposure coaches. TN has a bevy of talent, but not all of it is on the LV level....People fall in love with a kid that has a great game or two, but any kid can and will have their "Andy Warhol" moment, esoecially with the WW internet. But, it is the kids I see and hear of consistently that I want for this program,,,Karly Weathers will be a great player,,,Madi Hawk will be a great player,,,Kaiya Wynn will be incredible,,,Karoline Striplin will surprise a lot of people,,,Sara Puckett is a solid pickup,,,and Miles, if coached properly will be a needed speed-guard

Where will we put them?
We may watch the weaker ones go transfer portal....

As I told a player recently,,,basketball is about "taking", nothing is given to you...You take playing time, you take what the defense gives you, when you defend you take some one else's freedom of movement and most importantly, nine times out of ten, when you take playing time in basketball, you have to take it from a friend/teammate"

What have you seen and heard on the top 10/15 2022s we are chasing?

She scored 25 last year with about 10 assist on that track again.

We need to come out and win the third quarter huge they will throw that press up in the fourth we better be ready. We need to build a double digit lead.

If you lose yes. Again we are not a top 10 team fighting for top seeds. Let's just pull this game out. In CHRIST Alone

Exactly. She’s always going to get up against us. She’s Nikki’s niece and she wants to beat Tennessee just as bad as Fargas.

LSU has nothing going for them. We’re just playing passive on both ends. They got all the 50/50 balls in that first half. They are scrappy and want to play ugly and slow. We played right into their hands. They can’t beat us playing actual basketball, it has to be recess pickup for them to make it a game.

If we could ever have a game where RD looks to get hers instead of waiting until her teammates get involved we will be a far better team. I understand she has focused on rebounding this year, but that shouldn't take away from her trying to score. That's what separates her from the Rickea Jackson's and Rhyne Howard's imo. If she ever develops the mindset that she will dominate whoever guards her, we'd be a scary team. Her only taking 3 shots just wont cut it, she should be around 10 shots like Pointer has taken.
