Tennessee (16-7, 8-0 SEC), which is receiving votes in both major polls entering the new week, travels to Baton Rouge, La., to face No. 4/3 LSU (20-0, 8-0 SEC) in a battle of league unbeatens on Monday at 6:02 p.m. CT (7:02 p.m. ET) at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. This contest will mark the Lady Vols' second straight vs. a top-five opponent after they fell at home to No. 5/4 UConn, 84-67, on Thursday night in front of a season-best throng of 13,804 at Thompson-Boling Arena.

After hosting UT's biggest women's home crowd since 2015, the Big Orange will play in front of another large gathering in Baton Rouge, with an estimated sellout crowd of 13,000+ expected for a promoted "white out" game at the PMAC. UT and LSU will meet for the 70th time in a series that dates back to 1977, with the Lady Vols holding a 52-17 advantage and winning four of the past six meetings, including a 64-63 nailbiter in the Big Orange's last trip to Baton Rouge on Jan. 10, 2021.

Kellie Harper's squad enters having won nine of its past 10 games and 14 of its last 17, with the only losses coming vs. (then) No. 9/9 Virginia Tech (59-56) on Dec. 4, at No. 2/2 Stanford on Dec. 18 (77-70) and vs. No. 5/4 UConn on Thursday night in Knoxville (84-67). Through eight games in league play, UT remains tied atop the SEC standings along with LSU and No. 1/1 South Carolina. It is the Lady Vols' best conference start since they went 13-0 in 2014-15 en route to a 15-1 league record and regular-season title.

The Tigers come into Monday's affair rested, as they were idle Thursday after cruising to an 89-51 victory at Alabama on Jan. 23. Angel Reese and LaDazhia Williams had double-doubles, while Jasmine Carson led all scorers with 20 points to pace LSU.

Looking Back At The UConn Game
  • Senior Jordan Horston poured in a game-high 27 points, but it wasn't enough to overcome a sharp-shooting No. 5/4 UConn squad that hit 57 percent from behind the arc Thursday night in defeating Tennessee, 84-67, in front of a crowd of 13,804 at Thompson-Boling Arena.
  • Horston added seven rebounds to go with her season-high-tying 27 points to lead the Lady Vols (16-7, 8-0 SEC). Senior Rickea Jackson finished with 13 on the night, while sophomore Jillian Hollingshead managed 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
  • Jordan Horston tied her season high of 27 points against UConn to lead Tennessee in scoring.
  • Horston has now led UT in scoring in all four contests against ranked opponents in which she's been active, and she is averaging a double-double against teams in the Top 25 with 23.0 ppg. and 10.3 rpg.
Tennessee/LSU Notes
  • UT enters the 70th meeting in the series with a 52-17 edge, including a 23-4 record in Knoxville, 16-9 slate in Baton Rouge and a 13-4 mark at neutral sites.
  • The Lady Vols are 1-1 vs. LSU in overtime games. The last time the two teams went to OT was on March 1, 1997. Tennessee won the game 100-99 to advance to the semifinals of the SEC Tournament.
  • Kellie Harper is 2-3 overall vs. LSU and 2-2 vs. the Tigers while the head coach at Tennessee.
  • Harper is 0-2 in head-to-head match-ups with Kim Mulkey, dropping a contest to Baylor on Nov. 23, 2017, when she was head coach at Missouri State and falling by three as UT's skipper a year ago.
A Look At The Tigers
  • LSU features four starters scoring in double figures, including Angel Reese (23.7), Flau'jae Johnson (13.8), Alexis Morris (12.7) and Jasmine Carson (11.2).
  • Reese averages an impressive double-double, pulling down a whopping 15.5 rebounds per game.
  • The Tigers are putting up a nation-leading 88.2 points in all games and 78.4 in SEC contests, tallying scoring margins of 36.4 and 29.4, respectively. The 36.4 mark ranks second behind only South Carolina.
  • LSU gets to the free throw line more frequently than any other team, earning 25.6 attempts per game.
LSU's Last Game
  • Angel Reese recorded her 20th straight double-double (14 pts./14 rebs.) to set the LSU record, as the No. 4 Tigers cruised past Alabama, 89-51, on Jan. 23.
  • Reese's double-double streak is the second longest in SEC history, trailing only South Carolina's Aliyah Boston, who recorded 27 in a row last season.
  • LaDazhia Williams also had a double-double, her second in a row, with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Jasmine Carson shot 4-of-8 from three-point land and led LSU with 20 points. Alexis Morris finished with 17 and had a game-high seven assists.
Upcoming Games
  • Tennessee is back home on Feb. 2 vs. Ole Miss at 6:30 p.m. ET. The contest is part of Tennessee Athletics' celebration of Black History Month.
  • Fans can purchase a Weekday Family 4 Pack deal, getting four tickets & four $10 concession vouchers starting at $48 (plus tax/fees).
  • On Feb. 6, the Lady Vols will be in Starkville for their second meeting this season with Mississippi State. That game is slated for 6 p.m. CT (7 ET) at Humphrey Coliseum. The contest will be televised by the SEC Network.

LSU 77 Tennessee 68 I don't see us beating them on their home court with a full house. They are a talented team and we never play forty minutes. That is partly because we don't play the best players enough. I am hoping for victory should be a great game.

This will be interesting to see how the LVs respond to the UCONN loss. One of the keys to the game is our defense. Even if we aren't a great defensive team, we all know we can play so much better than we did in that first quarter against UCONN and haven't had a sustained full game effort all year. This is the game we better reach our defensive potential. LSU and especially Reese are not shooting near as well now that they are not playing cupcakes. It hasn't mattered because Reese seems to get almost every rebound and put it right back in the hoop. Unlike defense, rebounding is a strength of our team and we really need to at least be close to LSU in the rebounding margin stat. Another thing that is essential is for some of our secondary scorers to step up for the game, especially Puckett and Tess. If they both start hitting some three pointers so that the excellent LSU defense has to be spread out, this will create lanes for Rickea and Jordy to exploit in the paint. Hope we took notes from UCONN about how motion and good passing can create wide open three=point shots. We also need one of our low turnover games, as LSU is so quick that they will easily convert turnovers to fast break points. There are games that LSU commits quite a few turnovers, so I think a reasonable goal is to not commit more turnovers than LSU. Finally, we need a valiant effort from center position given Reese's dominance. I don't think we need a lot of points from the position, but we need good defense, plenty of rebounds, and most importantly staying out of foul trouble. The foul issue is my biggest concern given the Jillian has a tendency to foul and Reese is so quick to the basket that it would be hard to defend her without fouling. I know for all of this to happen would mean we would play our best game so far. It is possible, and we are way overdue for this type of game. Most good teams have already had a great game at some point this season so we are due ours. Even if everything falls into place, it doesn't guarantee a win. It would make things interesting and it will be good for the team to know that they can compete on the road against one of the best teams in the country.

I actually think we'll win this. I think we'll finish 2nd in the SEC, which means we beat one of SC or LSU, and it's more likely that we'd beat LSU. This is based on nothing but hopes and vibes, but our conference rarely leaves anyone unscathed, so why couldn't it be us to take them down?

Love this mindset. Team has gotta want it. They can let Thursday break them or make them.

Yes! Per Her Hoop Stats, UConn has the #2 defense and offense in the country. LSU has the #5 offense and #4 defense. Stanford has the #3 offense and defense and we almost pulled off the upset on their homecourt...so why not pull it off against LSU?

I would like see this lineup to start the game Jackson, Horston, hollinshead, Powell, Darby. I understand KJH has incerted Striplin in to the starting lineup but i don`t think this is the time or place Tennessee needs to get a top 25 win.

I think it is very simple. Reese and Horston will get theirs. The strategy for both teams is to shut down the other scorers. So it comes down to which team plays the best defense.

Thinking we’ll need more post help against LSU then SCar so hopefully our starting lineup will be Horston, Darby, Jackson, Franklin, Hollinshead.

Who will be the scoring option off the bench?

But we need to hold Reese to maybe 20/10 instead of 30/15.

Will, who brings the ball up?
Horston, Walker is very TO proned when pressure is applied and difficulty keeping speedy guards in front of her on defense. Would start Powell but she’s in a funk lately on offense and defense. If LSU isn’t applying much pressure then use Walker and hopefully we can defend

I think LSU might be a bit nervous as well. We are really one of the first teams the will be playing that can legit contend with them.

You know they have to be thinking/talking about this one just a little bit more. Sometimes that’s good, sometimes it makes a team tight.

At this point both teams have something to prove. We have to prove we can beat a top team and they have to prove they really are one.

The best defensive team we can put on the floor is Hollingshead, Franklin, Horston, Jackson, and Walker. Probably just as good an offensive team as well except for a three point threat which you don't need if your getting a lot of stops. This group stopped UConn cold for six minutes second quarter when they were on the floor and were never seen together again. I kept thinking surely we will start this five in the third quarter after what they did in the second quarter, but we did not. We went back to the same group that got mauled in the first quarter and of course it happened again. I doubt we see them very often as a group in this game either. Coach Harper seems to have a loyalty program where certain players are going to get those minutes no matter how they are doing on the court. This is why I am choosing LSU to win this game. I haven't seen any defense from the rotation we are using except the group I mention so no reason for it to show up in any of the others now.
I figure we'll see Reese score about three baskets on Karoline in the first two or three minutes and we'll be a few points behind when we make some changes. Hopefully they are not hitting threes or this one could get ugly fast.

Not quite. Didn't Horston start the 3rd after coming off the bench at the beginning of the game? I think Darby was actually the odd one out, which I found surprising. I wonder if we'll see something similar at LSU: Striplin, Puckett, Jackson, Horston, and Walker.

The Striplin Puckett part should've been Hollingshead and Franklin.
