Game Thread Lady Vols at Vanderbilt

This guy Hart and the other guy Cheeks don't really understand what the Lady Vols have meant to the Tennessee fan base and probably never will.

They messed up extending that contract up until 2017, anyone know Caldwell's contract situation with LSU?

I'm not sure about Caldwell's contract at LSU but let me say, that I don't think it would ever come to Holly being fired here. If it ever got as bad as we never hope it does, I honestly believe she would step down.

when you have a 6'6" player posting against a 6' player, you try to get her the ball more often. ZERO...that's the number of times Mercedes Russell was thrown the ball in the low post. Vandy's tallest player was 6'1" and she wasn't even guarding Russell. it obvious they have no confidence in Russell and aren't trying to develop her game. this team is in serious trouble.

Whats your definition of bad? Take a look at this remaining SEC schedule and see if you can see what I do...

1/16 Mississippi State
1/23 Florida
1/26 Texas A&M
1/30 Arkansas
2/2 Alabama
2/6 Ole Miss
2/10 Vanderbilt
2/16 Kentucky
2/20 Auburn
2/23 Missouri
2/27 LSU
3/2 South Carolina

Having watched most of these teams at some point, I think the only given wins are ole miss, alabama, and miss state. The rest of those could be potential losses. Some of those like Auburn, Mizzou, Arkansas and Florida might have some of you rolling your eyes but all have demonstrated their ability to play competitively over the short course of the conference season.

Did she ever seek to be anything other than assistant head coach? Why would they give her the reigns of one of the top four programs in the country? (arguably the top program) Because you had two men in charge who didn't understand LADY VOL basketball.

A lot of people, including Pat and fans, wanted Holly to be the next HC.

That is true. But people like Cheeks and Hart seek those positions and are hired to make the best decision for the program and the best decision isn't always pleasing to some of the fans. It was the safe decision. If Holly flamed out they can say well that's who the fans wanted. If they hired someone else and they flamed out then they could get heat for not listening to the fans.

I think They finish 9-3 in that stretch losing to Texas A&M,Kentucky and South Carolina and being a 3-4 seed in the NCAA Tournament,

Pat chose Holly. Cheek and Hart rubber stamped it. They were not going to go against Pat's wishes after forcing her out.

They also are not going to give a damn how many games we win or how poorly we play. The AD is nearly bankrupt as it is. Women's basketball barely breaks even and they aren't going to put any additional money into it because it just isn't there. The past is the past and I don't think you can bring it back even by throwing a lot of money at it. They will pay the program lip service but will keep the wallet closed.

It is Holly or bust, so it may be best to just accept that and keep the *****ing and moaning to a minimum since it isn't going to help. How the public perceives our program is important. Like it or not, we are going to have to swallow our doubts and just root for the team and hope they turn things around in the tournaments. There is nothing to be gained by complaining about the coaching all the time.

This team is a mystery. We showed a lot of resilience last year and, by and large, played better than we should have until the tournaments rolled around. This year we just fold under adversity. The psychology seems to be that Izzy is their leader and everyone looks to her to be the savior rather than playing their parts. Jones said as much in her interview after the game. Izzy is a good player, but it isn't fair to her for the team to try to ride her... especially when she doesn't have that level of ability. She is great, but is not one of those players who carry a team by themselves and will them to win.

Once doubt creeps into your mind you are going to lose in basketball every time. Champions don't doubt. They just do what it takes, and if they ever fall short it never enters their mind to think they won't prevail the next time out. This team doubts from the opening tip. They know the expectations are high and they play in their fears rather than their hopes. They are front runners. They need to toughen up.

And Holly needs to make a huge donation to the retirement home for blind refs so we can get on their good side and get some calls.

Wow. What a dumb **** contract that is. UT is dumb as hell, and I'm stuck being a fan no matter what. Figures. Why give her an extension. You should only get an extension making the final four as a UT women's coach. What is going on here????

Yes, so you see nothing is going to happen to Holly. They are through paying over a million dollars for a women's basketball coach. And, are probably relieved Pat came down with her disease because it gave them an out. I hate feeling so cynical but that's how I feel. They didn't want to go out and get a tested coach because they didn't want to pay him or her. I think she only makes about average for SEC women's coaches.

P.S.-I think Caldwell is getting over $700,000 per year.

The raise increases her total annual pay to $550,000.
Tennessee Lady Vols give Holly Warlick raise, one-year extension - ESPN

I don't think that Caldwell is as great a coach as others think on here, she is a very good coach, but not a great one
