Game Thread Lady Vols in the SEC Tournament

So it was a pitcher's duel after all. I thought there was a chance for that. Congratulations to Erin Gabriel and the entire LV team.

Personally, I am very glad the Weekly's recruited Erin Gabriel.

hopefully she stays healthy this year and gets a full year of strength and conditioning in,for a change

The announcer on the audio stream was talking about how the UF hitters deliberately get in close to the plate so that they are likely to get hit by the pitcher. He gave stats on how many times during the season different players had taken hits. I was thinking "this is a strategy??", but apparently it works for the Gators. Seems like they're risking injuries. We've got 2 players who've been injured by hit balls, and I guess that's way worse than getting hit by a pitched ball, but anyway ... That's a strategy???

Apparently so. The batters wear lots of padding so the risk of injury I guess is minimal compared to getting hit while in the field. Considering the rules apparently don't require the batter to try and get out of the way, it's really not a bad idea.

a lot of players do that,if watch the replays you see em leaning a bit, when they think they can get away with it

I think all teams are doing this and will, unless a rule changes comes along, which probably won't happen any time soon, the NCAA likes to see high scores,so it isn't going to change, unless a couple of players get hurt doing it

she has been pitching a lot more consistent at the end of the regular season, hopefully she can keep it up,along with the other pitchers :)

Great WIN Lady Vols...I know i'm late...still...GBO!!!

Outstanding, kudos to the Weekly's...

I saw that coming for Gabriel about mid way through the season. You could see her pitching motion really start to gel. The best pitchers are good at using centripetal velocity for generating spin on the ball. Their arms are very tension free and their wrists are very loose and snap the ball. They almost fall off the rubber. Tonight I could see from the very first inning Gabriel had that tension free motion and snap on the ball. I knew that rise was going to be hard to hit.

So, guess who will probably have to miss the final game because he has to take the Wifey on a weekend getaway to St Petersburg Fl.

Hope they can pull thru without me..... :(
