Game Thread Lady Vols Softball Team week 12

they have cancelled a bunch of games due to weather pretty much every year, which it does suck that this one got cancelled, but it happens

I would have liked them to play the game in the afternoon too ,but DeerPark explained why that didn't happen

I just think the rule needs to be looked into more mule. That's my point now. There's too many games that are getting canceled that affect the standings. I perfectly understand now why this final game of this series against Auburn can't be madeup because of the timing of the year/season.

However, the SEC should do everything possible to play all games. If that means some teams playing 3 games during the week plus playing the weekend SEC series so be it.

Say a team plays 2 non-conference games during the week then if a makeup game needs to be made take one other weekday to make that game up sometime during the season. I just think this rule is cheating/not fair for teams competing for positions in the standings heading into the SEC tournament.

I know nothing can be done about mother nature & what God does when he brings rain/weather but there has to be some more emphasis from the SEC softball commissioner about this. Is this the way all other conferences handle canceled/rained out games as well in softball? Thanks!

there really isn't whole lot to be done, should they have played that game in the afternoon ? sure but it was a Monday which throws a wrench in that and as far as making up a game later,it is expensive for the smaller conferences to be able to come in for just 1 game

it does work out and you have to figure in scheduling and time for school work

What do you mean by it does work out? How is that working out for teams possibly having a chance to advance or in some cases drop their seeding in the SEC tournament?

I can understand not making up the non-conference games much more than the conference ones. It's the conference ones that I don't get but like you said they have rules for it.

I didn't know this was a rule. I thought like in most other sports canceled games had to be made up. Then again, LSU didn't make up a football game that was rained out this past season.

I think this is a silly rule if you ask me. All games are needed to determine SEC rankings heading into the SEC tournament. Of course, this could help some teams while hurt others. I know there are weekday games as well for all teams.

I guess I can see why this last game of the series against Auburn isn't being made up. Due to finals & really no day to use as a makeup but you say they wouldn't have made it up anyhow if it wasn't during that 3 day window. I think this is a rule that needs to be seriously looked into possibly changing.

I can tell you that exactly zero coaches would support changing the rule. Extending stays in hotels, changing flights, holding players out of class an extra day, etc., none of that is appealing to coaches in any way.

Good point you have there. I just don't like it myself. :p
