Going to be interesting for sure. Those small in-state schools see down Tennessee and would like nothing more than to put a nail in the coffin.
We've been in the situation for a few years where beating us is not actually that big a deal, but it still feels like it. Esp to smaller schools, and espec an instate. Didn't MTSU troll us last yr something about being the TN state champ?

MTSU has an interesting roster. Three players from Russia, one each from Spain, Hungary, Canada, and Rwanda. Doubt they’re intimidated by Tennessee. Still don’t understand why 2 Tennessee teams are playing in Alabama.

They have players 6’6, 6’5, 6’4, and 6’3, hope Tamari plays.

GLV!!!

This will be the start of a 15 game win streak. will be 19-4. Lady Vol's. 88 - 58. As always go Lady Vol's.
I love your enthusiasm and positive nature; you're such a ray of sunshine on what is often a gloomy board. Thanks!

However, today, I'm more in thinking with glv98: Our team is not very reassuring. With or without our All-American, they must dig down deep to find more consistent play. We can surely lose this game!

From a personal/local perspective: Courtney Whitson from Dobyns Bennett, is one of the very best players from our local area in recent years. I don't know her, just watched her play some in High School, but she's certainly a local success story who has been a very consistent contributor to MTSU's program/success. And, she's a brilliant student, this being her graduate season (covid), so she's probably leaving Murfreesboro with a Masters. Good on her.

I'm curious, and actually quite concerned with the Six-Six Muscovite/Muscovian (you History majors can straighten this out for us) - Anastasiia Boldyreva - 15 points, 8 rebounds per game. Can Key play enough to keep her in check? Is this a good matchup for Jillian? A very interesting situation.

I'm not here to sing the blues, but this is a well-coached team, with a lot of height, length, shooters, etc. But, hopefully, this game will be the beginning of a successful run.

Cheers!

Woke up this morning filled with dread. If we lose this game, the wheels are off and bc the SEC is off to such a rough start, we're in a hole even Rickea probably can't pull us out of.

You literally never know with the team we're currently rolling out, but they simply must bounce back and win this game. Sign of the times that I'm this worried about MTSU but you know they smell blood in the water and are jacked sky high.

Agreed that a win will be way better than a loss (and that the team could use you a win right now) but, this season can turn on a dime when Rickea returns for reasons I have discussed ad nauseam elsewhere, particularly if TK keeps on her improvement curve.

Remember, it is always darkest before the dawn (except in those rare situations when the entire solar system is consumed by a black hole and reduced to subatomic particulars forever collapsing under the force of infinite gravity).

I think there is at least a 50-50 chance that the MTSU game is not a black hole.

I'm with glv98 on this one. Lose this game and the wheels are officially all the way off the cart and rolling away fast.

Tennessee absolutely cannot afford to lose tonight. While any type of win is obviously preferable to any type of loss, I actually kinda think the Lady Vols, national perception-wise, can't even afford for it to be a nail-biter of a win. I think they need at least a double-digit victory to not appear, well, pitiful.

If the Lady Vols lose tonight I'm going to seriously consider pressing "snooze" on watching women's college basketball for a bit, because I'm already on mental life support up in here. Yeah, yeah ... I know. It's just a game.

Then why do I sometimes wish I could "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" the sh!t out of 40-plus years of this stuff? lol

Huntsville is hosting the Conference USA tournament this year and MTSU has a lot of alumni in the area. Its probably changed but there used to be a decent number of UT fans in Huntsville too.

We are a 3 point favorite but for context we barely survived Memphis at home, MTSU needed just a half to put them away and won by 20 then beat them again at a neutral site

They beat Florida A&M by 16 more than we did.

Could easily see MTSU winning this and that maybe the gasoline on the fire that’s burning under Kelly’s seat rn

Our ladies need to find that fine line between intensity and aggressiveness on defense and comfortable level of confidence on offense.

Imo, we're pressing too hard with our shooting but not hard enough in anticipating and jumping passing lanes on defense. If your player pucks up her dribble, cover her up. If you see your player backpeddling to receive in in-bounds lob, turn and jump to intercept it.

And set & use hard picks and cuts. When someone set and actuall held a good screen for Tess, she drained a three. It's just fundamental basketball.
