Game Thread: Lady Vols v UCONN; Thurs. 8PM; on ESPN

No. Actually the intent was UConn up two, gets laid low by a three point shot that Sara drops last second. Had nothing to do with winning by a bucket which clearly would be a two point margin. Not nearly as inspiring when it has to be explained.
I read it differently Chuck, maybe I was off, don’t think so.

Based on what? How can you call a college basketball player trash without a clue about who she is? BTW she's actually a pretty good baller. You can watch her next year in the W.
No thanks — the W is a farce. I saw a 30yr old woman that could barely dribble the ball…

I’d rather have Tennessee where they are at this point than UConn and Geno. Integrity should count for something.
I loathe him as much as I do Will Wade. I would pay to see somebody stomp a mud hole in him and walk it dry.

Be interested to see Sc versus them doubt they shoot 57 percent. Only thing I liked about the game tonight was out board play. It was the only thing we did right.
SC has length, athleticism and speed at all 5 positions. Cooke will not let Lopez Senechal get free as much as Tennessee allowed tonight. UConn won’t be scoring 80+ points.

UConn really only has 3 rebounders. I’m not surprised that Tennessee controlled the boards, although it helped they got a lot of lucky bounces that just landed in the laps.

You know what's weird? Auriemma was just as pissed at the refs as the UT fans. In the end the refs didn't win or lose the game, nor did the announcers. Two good teams played a game and the better team won. Tennessee shot 39% and made 10 free throws. They were 36% for 3s. UConn shot 55% and made 10 free throws. They were 57% from outside. That kind of says it all.
O MY GOODNESS.

Our coach decision to not start Horston was pivotal it could have been us getting off to a fast start and possibly overwhelming UCONN where the second quarter to halftime we could’ve been up by double digits.maybe UCONN claws back with a handful of players which could have gassed them in the second half and even if they came back we could have had a lead where if they made a run it could’ve been neck and neck going down to the final minutes and anyone’s game I know we cut the lead to 4 at halftime but the first half still set the tone which our coach blew

I have watched UConn play all season with a depleted roster. They don't get gassed. Probably because Auriemma and Dailey are taskmasters when it comes to conditioning. Tonight UConn played 11 bench minutes. UT played 95.

Lopez will also have 6-4 Amihere on her to Beal, Hall, and Hall has good size to take your pick.

Let's be candid: UConn = better talent, better coaching, better sets, better (smarter) decision making, better shooting, better...everything.

Assist/Turnover ration: It's a very telling/significant TEAM state--I've been pointing to this stat for FOREVER as a major reason for our demise--and it's especially revealing when we play UConn:

UConn A/TO: 24/15
UT A/TO: 12/21

We had 2 players with 5 turnovers each--Walker and Jackson. Can't happen. Walker is not good in games against good opponents.
We had 1 player with 6 turnovers--Horston. That's three veteran players with 16 freakin' TOs. Absurd.

Same glaring problem we've had for 15 years.

Let's check the player efficiency ratings for this game:

UConn starting 5: UT starting 5 +1

17 4 (Puckett)
17 4 (Walker)
20 6 (Darby)
22 6 (Jackson)
24 16 (Hollingshead)
20 (Horston)

Yikes. That's all that can be said, really.

Not a guarantee. Darby and Puckett will likely start at the 2 and 3. I guess Striplin at the 4 and Jill at the 5 (unless Key comes back).
Pissott has the biggest upside and Puckett should not start over her. Hopefully she works hard this off-season and becomes a better player.

It’s all talent,

I don’t understand this love for SC? If SC is so much better than UConn, what does that say about us???

It says we're not having success recruiting in the top end of the recruiting pool like South Carolina and UConn are. We've signed some good players, yes, but the top tier in this game really is top tier. And South Carolina has been hauling in 5s regularly these past few years.
