Game Thread: Lady Vols v Vanderbilt: Sunday 1PM, TV-SEC network,,,Final: TN 84 Vandy 71

Nope. Vandy was holding alot and at one pt one of their players hooked Powell around the neck going for a loose ball then gave it that extra sling and knocked her over. Play got reviewed for flagrant, looked flagrant, but nothing was called. Other than that nothing.

You talking about Lady Vols facebook?
Yeah, Margo’s group

I agree. She is a smart player who has one very valuable skill, the 3 point dagger and she is building the rest of her game around that. She never tries to do to much. Her defensive game is improving at a remarkable rate and she getting more rebounds, and getting better at creating her own shot. She is even bringing up the court with confidence.

I compare her to Shanna Zolman. SZ was a more highly ranked recruit and a more polished offensive player as a freshman but she was an accident waiting to happen on defense and could be shut down by a good defender. She worker her butt off and become a solid defender who could beat most defenders off the dribble and even did a decent job as an emergency point guard. Tess is a taller player and I don;'t think she will ever be as quick as Zolman but she is going to become a really good all-round player. I love that Kellie can find a diamond in the rough and then polish her up nice and shiny.

If tess wants to use her covid season, should could have two more years. Over two more seasons, she could be the kind of player who could be a real game changer. With her sis on the team, I look for her to be a 6th year senior.

Does Tess have a COVID year. I know at Greenfield they canceled the state tournament for COVID; which would be the same year the NCAA cancelled the tournament correct? That would mean unfortunately she doesn't have a COVID year cause she was still in high school; not at UT at the time. I could be wrong. Hell I hope I am lol

Yeah, Margo’s group
What is the nature of their upset?
Crazy, felt like Kea didn’t have her best game but she had 23 and 5. If she hits another level down the stretch, along with Horston and the others…..watch out.
Shots weren't falling for her in the first half, yet she came back to shoot 8-17. Wisely started making her living on putbacks until her shot started falling. Also hit 7-9 fts, had 5 reb, 2 steals , an assist and a block. Had 4 t.o.s though. RJ has incredible timing on her jump and so is a very good rebounder.

RJ is averaging 22 pts per game in SEC and JH is averaging almost 6 assists a game. Another level for these two would be amazing. We have to see them do it against the best defenses though.

Same nonsense you see here with fans accusing each other of not being real fans, Pollyannas, Negavols, etc. Seemed strange for an easy win.
They didn't quite close the deal very neatly today. Vandy was super tenacious - plus surprise! had one player go off for 27 pts. So after getting ahead by about 20 early in the 4th, Vandy had a run and got it to about 8 at one pt. People were complaining they let their foot off the gas again, which kinda they did. So that was the main criticism. Not sure how that breaks down to a negavol war but there you go.

Bucketts was obviously having a sluggish day. That happens sometimes. Sometimes we women feel bloated; I won’t attempt to explain.

Kellie just filled her minutes with a bit of Pissott and Wynn. No biggie.
She has had alot of sluggish days , you might want to start calling her ... Cluckett.

Says the guy who thinks that old school fan forum message boards are more relevant than any form of social media…even Facebook.

How ironic…

If not, why are you here?
and if not relevant, why do you know so much about the tone of conversation here

Patronizing doesn't suit you Amb

Darby and Horston (and Striplin) were the catapults, but RJ was the big ole cannon ball they hurled thru the castle door. Points don't tell the whole story, but they do define the final score.

But yeahTess has been outstanding, a stat sheet stuffer in her own right. She's been major in the 4-0 start.
So Vandy is a castle huh(?) , more like a owl house. Lol. But I feel you , right on!

I should have written 5th year senior (changed on edit). Tess was a freshman during the covid shortened 20-21 season, so she should have a 5th year if she wants.

Because our second line needs game experience to improve. Because it is a long season and we don’t want to wear our starters out or expose them to injury more than necessary. Because we want to reward kids working hard in practice. Because this is in essence a home game for Kaiya. Because we don’t want kids transferring that will be important for us next year.
I certainly do not think that KJH’s substitution methods have anything to do with rewarding players for working hard in practice or fear that players might transfer. A coach has to play players that have the ability to win games. I really believe that she believes her players that she subs in can hold their own. You noticed that she changed the line up when Vandy got close.

Along with Puckett, who had no business playing extended minutes in this one...

Golly gee, poor dumb Kellie can't even recognize when a player is not doing well.

But wait, (checks box score), so 12 minutes for a starter is now extended minutes?

Your goal posts are more mobile than the Neyland stadium one after the Bama game.

Sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between a troll or dedicated nega and a real-life well-intentioned ORANGE Eeyore. Featuring moral losses is what it is.

The improvement from year 1 til now has been one of a kind. She’s literally a lottery pick right now i believe she’s better than Haley Jones as well.

Ummm, no. Gotta disagree. She needs to go 5th to Chicago. That will serve to male Parker want to play another year. And, in my dream world, cause Catchings (who is still probably better than 70% of the league overall and 90% of the league defensively) to want to teach her Tennessee heir apparent, to sign for a vet min contract. Then the 3 Tenn alums will lead the Chicago Sky to a 2nd WNBA title.

I believe Kellie said that minutes were earned in practice. I agree that she changed her lineup when things got tighter but I don’t think that negated any of the points I made. Earning minutes is different than earning minutes during a key time frame.

It wasn't that significant today--but her timeout theory (if one can call it that) is a bad one. It's the same bad timeout theory that Warlick had--which was to not call a timeout when the opponent was on a scoring streak. There's a reason practically every BB coach in America as been calling timeouts to break an opponent's momentum for 100 years.
i think it is one reason teams are afforded so many time outs.... to arrest opposition momentum..... of course.

Several have pointed out that in several games we have had an approximately 20 point lead, and at some point late in the game, we lost the big lead, and the game became close. Possible reasons were loss of focus or intensity.

To me, those are not the main reasons this is happening. It’s much simpler. Right now, I believe we have five who I would call dependable scorers, or players I most trust to play well. They are: Rickea, Horston, Tess, Striplin, and Franklin. Any other player than these on the floor, (and I know we need a point guard), to me, is a less dependable scorer. So, for every player that comes on the court, who is not one of the top five, we’re handicapping our team. (This does not mean the subs have no potential to play well, but they are not yet on the same level as the top five). The more of these subs on the floor mean we handicap our team that much more, and have less chance of scoring well. So, the more subs in the game and the longer they play, the more time the opposing team has to whittle down our lead.

While starters need to rest and minutes help subs, we’re playing a team probably playing their best players, and still fighting to win. The solution is two fold, play the least amount of subs together, and refrain from adding subs too early in the game, lessening the time of a possible comeback. Any team can be dangerous, we cannot help them by multiple subbing too early in the game.

No she don't, Horston is destined for greatness, even before she came to the Orange . Look good at her , that's Rennia's gal and again she's a baddddassss.
I feel your dream world , I really do but I feel her dream eclipse both yours and mine.
Bet she win three chip be4 she's done in the WNBA.

Go to the play by play, when Vandy made its run to cut the 20pt lead to 8, you will see a long series of shot missed by Hortson or Jackson, foul by Jackson, TO by Jackson, while Vandy made some shots and FT. Essentially, our go-to players hit a rough patch. Franklin was on the court during that run.

Basketball is a game of runs and the LVs hit a short bad stretch, that happens sometimes. Again, Vandy never really threatened. Once the lead got to 8, the LVs pushed it back up to double digits. I don't think this game is one to put under the microscope.

This from Volfan2012:

“Yes but you should try that at home more than the road cause when we had Wynn, Walker, and Powell in there together the lead went from 21 to 8.”

I was talking about more than just this game, but if the above quote is correct, it just illustrates what I was saying. Even Horston and Rickea need the best players around them, to play their best.

Gonna be a curb stomp. LVs 78 - 54 and only that close bc the subs play alot. Someone is going to score at least 25, maybe 30. Probably RJ, but I kind of hope it's JH so she can be SEC POW this week.

Justine gets her first look at that very 'unique' court, interesting to see how that effects her shot.

Memorial Gymnasium is the most unique court in college or professional basketball.
