Game Thread Lady Vols vs Alabama State

Harris is developing the footwork for post moves. Just has coordinated the shot after sealing the defender. Greatly improved on defense was switching off and hustling on both ends. She is benefiting from practice and O & time on the floor. Her upside as a post is limited but if she plays within her ability she can contribute.

I know it's a cupcake, but the way they controlled turnovers today was very encouraging.

Troy, our next opponent beat this same cupcake by 30 two weeks ago.

This was a good practice game. The bench players need as much time on the floor as possible. If Holly made this schedule to see what her freshmen had, I have to say it was a good strategy as we head into the meat of the schedule. I think it has been a good confidence builder. The Lady Vols have done one hell of a good recruitment job. I hate that K.K. has missed the last few games due to a foot injury. I think she will be a force in the post.

I am excited about this group.

I agree. I am glad that this group was not thrown into early games against ranked teams. They needed this games to make some adjustments, get use to playing together, and as you said, build confidence.

She looks like she's spent a lot of time in the weight room too. She started out at a much lower ability level than our current freshman but she's made a lot of progress.

What??? According to the negavols no one ever improves after signing with Holly! Lol, she has gotten a lot better and could be a solid defense player one day, we have plenty of offensive options right now...i love this yrs team.

I agree, Harris can help on defense and she's better suited to play the four, and she has a nice jump shot. She probably should try playing away from the block

I like her improvement as well and I've noticed that whenever she plays she records at least 1 block. She slides her feet well and isn't afraid to contest shots.

She is a specialist (short of like KD is from beyond the 3 once she regains the confidence in her shot) and if used properly could really help us come tournament time.

You might see one have a bad game but the chances of more than one of them having a bad game I don't see it happening.

What is different in our freshman is they have 2 potential All American's that they are allowing to lead. They all (except for Kasi) have been the go to players on their high school teams and have that mind set to get theirs but have the luxury of getting theirs if the team wants them to and not because they needs them to.

The emergence of MeMe and Green showing that she is also the real deal with KD being healthy finally and showing she has improved defensively only helps them also because they don't have to be stars they can contribute and its no pressure for them to make things happen right away like there is with Carter at A&M or Dodson at Stanford, McKinney and Harrison at Kentucky.

We are in good hands and I love it!

Alabama State post-game vs. Tennessee - YouTube
Alabama State Coach Freda Jackson making a comparison on playing Tennessee and South Carolina.

ASU’s head coach was asked about similarities between USC and UT. She complimented Wilson as a great athlete and superior ball-handler compared to Russell. However, due in part to USC injuries, she said UT has the advantage on the perimeter, especially due to our size.
