Game Thread Lady Vols vs Arkansas

Really impressed with Arkansas they really play hard. We had to fight for this game and played a great second half. They out hustled us for most of the fifty fifty balls but Simmons and Burdick made some super shots. Arkansas is gonna upset some teams glad we don't see them anymore.

Do we have the stomach bug going around? Some of our girls were leaving the court on a mission.

Arkansas is a tough team and a young team. Tom's future looks good. Kudos to Burdick and Simmons. Carter and Harrison played well also. We can make some of the best passes and some of the worst. Too many turnovers. Ladies played hard.

Final was 70-60. Burdick was deemed POG with her 17 pts. LVs made it look hard at first where Ark was up by as much as 8-10 points. Ark has got good talent & will open some eyes down the road if not already.

Just got through watching Georgia beat Kentucky. Two teams not playing well in that one.Lady Vols did not play as well as Sunday, but, like someone else,I think many or all of them were a little under the weather.Maybe a virus or something.Cierra Burdick played exceptionally well just when our Ladies needed a boost.Simmons also played under control, that's two games in a row.All in all,a good win against a good, well coached team.Worst part of LVs game was entry passes to post players.and as an aside,Mercedes Russell is going to be excellent when she learns to use her feet rather than reaching for everything.Wonder if the trainers make the girls work with jump ropes for leg strength and coordination?Good work,LVs,in adverse circumstances.

Proud of the team tonight! It wasn't the best looking win but a few people stepped up that I must give kudos to and that is Cierra Burdick, Jasmine Jones, and Jordan Reynolds. Cierra had the best game that I can remember her having, Jasmine played tremendous defense against one of Arkansas better offensive threats and Jordan came in and played good minutes while relieving Andraya from her duties. Overall a great effort from an inspired group of LV's! Proud of this team just keep up the good work

You think Tennessee fans are pissed--Matthew Mitchell is taking UK to the cleaners. Over $1MM a year salary, highest in the SEC, and over the last 7 years of his tenure they have one regular season title. For all intents and purposes they are eliminated from the title this year with four losses. I doubt they do any damage in the tournament either as I'm skeptical any team required to play full court defense the way he requires his teams can win 3 games in 3 days. If I'm an AD and I'm paying you $1MM to coach a non revenue generating sport you sure as hell better bring me more than 1 title in 7 years. I get where people aren't sold on Holly yet, but I have yet to see that he is some amazing savior.

Unless Kentucky can score in transition they have a hard time. Also, They miss being able to hand check and constantly reach at the ball on defense. Seems that Mitchell and his assistants need to work on their half court game.

I think UK may also be missing Coach Elzy. Their defense is not the same. Not that ours is any better, but maybe we'll get there. Huge win for UGa, as they really needed it.

The Lady Vols handed Arkansas their worst defeat of the season. Even though 10 points isn't a blow out - all of their games have been close. I thought it was a good win with Ariel out and Arkansas seemed to be on their game the first half, too. Russell got some quality minutes and helped us turn the corner in the ball game at one stretch. Burdick broke out of her slump. Simmons kept her consistency going. Andraya continues to impress. I like the direction we're headed.

We've got a couple of road games against unranked opponents ahead and then a couple of home games against ranked opponents. I hope they take care of business one game at a time starting with Alabama on Superbowl Sunday.

What UK is missing is they aren't allowed to mug players now. That's the difference. I knew with the new rules, they would be toast and people on here were dying for him to be the coach of the Lady Vols. :shakehead: Every time a crew called the fouls in a UK game in the past, they lost. I saw it more than once.

Comments regarding ky's defense are very thoughtful and after reading them easily understood.

Holly also commented on the quality of Ark's team.

What would be interesting would be to read the scouting reports that teams prepare before playing the LVs. Then we would know the answer to .... well everything except why Moore doesn't play more. In seriousness, I would not start Harrison until five minutes into the first half because I am convinced that every game plan starts with plays to try and get early fouls. (similarly, refs sometimes call early and often to establish the norm.

Other teams have nights that are frustrating to fans AND their coaches. Indiana women lost at home by 3 they made 6 of 20 foul shots and in that total were many first of 1 & !. On the year they are hitting 70% . Contagion, mental, one player - team. How does one coach a breakdown in team confidence.

I thought it was a nice win for the Lady Vols,Arkansas plays a very good defense and it was nice to see Burdich play like we all know that she can,Simmons played another good game,Carter continues to improve,Graves made a fast exit to the locker room as did Carter

hopefully there isn't a bug going around in the team, but it does look like it,Izzy and Russell looked good in post play,Russell needs to work on her ball control big time and not take a dribble, shoot it Russell :) and stop with the early fouls Izzy

Reynolds had a good game, hopefully Jones is ok,she did look to be in some serious pain on that play at the end of the game

I thought that Burdich did deserve player of the game,I think that she did beat most points per game for her

Were playing a lot better next lesson we need to learn is stop forcing the post pass. Sometimes the defense is just to good and you have to take the perimeter shot. A shot of any kind is much better than a turnover.

i do like the improvements we have seen in the last couple of games, and the post players need a little more of being willing to kick the ball back out too,of course some better 3 pt shooting would help that

but i do like the way they are trying to get the ball to the post players more, and another thing that is improving,is the post players are looking for passes better, instead of watching it sail by or bounce off there bodies, while they are staring at the rim

Agree. And Russell seems to be taking it to the hoop with more authority and fewer attempts at a dribble.
