Game Thread Lady Vols vs Baylor

Meme,
Diamond,
Nared,
Nunn,
Russell,

Mane, another year of average to below average guard play. Get back to work ladies.

Go Lady Vols, go Holly, Go players. Toughen up!

Actually, I think Holly has overachieved wit this group especially an elite 8 last year.

Holly will figure it out, I mean that's what good coaches do.

Figure it out? This is much the same team we had last year. Holly can't figure it out--that's been the problem since she became coach.

Mercedes Russell scores a season-high 22 points, records fifth double-double of the season.

I see ya.. most consistent Lady Vol, keep competing young lady.

Nunn has the player on her back and Middleton continues to drive to the basket and then dishes it to her for a turnover, give her the ball, it is bound to be a defensive foul

Middleton is out of control most of the time when on the court. Her crazy passing, dribbling, and shooting...totally wreck less with the ball...and Holly apparently doesn't see it! She goes down court and tries to be a one woman show, Harlem Globetrotters style, and shows no focus or desire to play team basketball...

Diamond is all talk, she's gonna do this, she's gonna do that, and haven't done a damn thang, this year she is healthy and still not dominating games, leaving her footprint all over games, you never leave the game thinking, mane she was the best player on the court. Diamond, where's yo head at?

Holly, you gotta get yo ladies tougher..

I urge fans of our women's basketball program to write Hart and demand a coaching change. That is the only way to save the program, at this point. I couldn't be more serious--I've already done it.

Its almost like she gets basketball anxiety against the top teams. lol I like her because of her ability to play team basketball, seems like everyone wants to do it all by themselves once they face adversity, rather than playing team basketball to get the best shot, her confidence issues are magnified, her lack of mental toughness is magnified. Middleton and Reynolds both veterans, ugh...

Skill wise our ladies has improved, but mentally they are still the same players. The only players that look mentally tougher are Russell and Nared.

I don't think the brass has the stones to make a change. It's sad

There is no brass to make a decision....there is a lame duck Athletic Director who no longer goes to the office because he will be replaced this month. Then there is also a lame duck Chancellor who has been replaced .I believe that a new Athletic Director will be named soon after the new Lady Chancellor take's office Dec 15.And,as I have stated in this thread and others recently,if David Blackburn is dubbed as the new Athletic Director he may suggest to Holly that she retire at end of this season.

Hart does not even go to office now and will be replaced this month so that is an exercise in frustration.

Just saw that Duke beat SC at home. I looked at the box score and they played 8 players and no not have the supposed talent that we do. Do not use the short bench as an excuse.

As far as the coaching, the game plans seem to be there, but what about adjustments. Also, it does not help that our guard play sucks.

Thanks Mercedes and Jamie for playing hard.

I thought Russell was fantastic today. Can't wait to see her against the trees of Texas.

Why did Baylor play man toady? Don't they scout opponents? Why wouldn't every opposing coach play zone against Tennessee. It would take Russell out of the game, eliminate drives to the basket (and silly fouls), and force Tennessee to hit from the outside. Yes, they still won handily, but still.....

Duke is pretty talented. Lexie Brown, Rebecca Greenwell, plus 2 Top 10 post players. They have a freshman guard who is pretty good, too.

The only thing holding them back is Coach JPM.

Texas struggled to score against a much smaller team today. They may be vulnerable.

That smaller team was UConn. Everyone struggles to score against them.

McCarty and Higgs will eat up Tennessee's guards. They couldn't do that against a more well-coached UConn backcourt.

Maybe one, or the only way, of filling Thompson-Boling arena this season would be to announce that everyone supporting a coaching change show up on a Saturday afternoon and say YES in unison to said proposal!

I didn't even realize that Mompremier, Brown, & Cox shot so poorly (4-24) combined. That first quarter really hurt Tennessee. That is when they had the easiest opportunities but couldn't hit anything. It's crazy Baylor actually didn't even play that well. I watched the game live and am now looking at the stats and man it sure looked like they played much better than these stats look. Jones going off obviously was key but that won't help Baylor long term. I wonder what would have happened had Tennessee been within 5 after the 1st. I'm not saying they would have won but those open baskets going in might have made them play with a bit more fire the rest of the way. DeShields looked so angry and frustrated in that 3rd quarter.

Not to be too negative, but I will say Baylor by 25. Just hope we play hard and improve execution on offense and cut the turnovers.

I laughed when I saw this before the game. I'm not laughing anymore. This is the last game I'm going to this season. We were so outplayed today, obviously so outcoached. They could have easily beat us by 40.

I never thought I see the program in such disarray. I can understand losing to this team, but losing like this is just plain embarrassing.

I am convinced now, Holly has no clue.

Baylor really didn't play that well. Overall, Russell dominated them when she had the ball. The shots Russell missed were ones that were well contested. But between Mompremier, Brown and Cox they missed about 9 shots in the second half that were gimmes. They just rushed the shots. Alexis Prince also had a poor shooting night. The entire 4th quarter, they looked ragged on offense and defense when they had their subs in. If they kept their starting five in until the end like Tennessee did, they could have won by 40+ points.

I just finished watching my recording of that game Amb. The Conn team almost looked like pigmies compared to Texas' height. The Genome countered (brilliantly?) by pulling one of their smaller starters & put in another big that they used effectively to neutralize Texas' frontcourt. After that move they just kept pulling away. If this is what a 'young' team looks like now, they are going to be pretty good by March.

Good coaching - its something I had almost forgotten how to recognize.

UConn is so clinical in the way they play. The two posts are also excellent passers, and the Huskies ball movement has not suffered with the loss of the three starters last year. They always seem to make the right in-game adjustments to disrupt the other team...something that Tennessee hasn't done in ages.

Watching these games back to back shows just how wide a gap there is between the two programs. It's pretty disgraceful. Tennessee isn't even with the also rans. They are in the same league as the "don't even matter" teams.

When they fall out of the rankings tomorrow, it's unlikely they will make it back at all this season. Holly...busting records left and right. She must be so proud of her accomplishments!

You're wasting your time. A lame duck AD isn't going to make a coaching change and even if he did, would you really want Hart making the hire?
