Game Thread Lady Vols vs Carson Newman exhibition game

Me too. Those are the only two players left with Uconn as their school right. He usually takes a two year break then reloads.

It won't matter they'll be young, going against a veteran Lady Vols squad, well E, Rennia and KK.

Are we being to hard on KK after one exhibition game? I'm rewatching the game, she made nice moves, just missed shot badly from close range. Nerves?

I was wondering about her. Annie was a totally different player from Evina, but on paper it seemed like Jazzmin and Evina were very similar. How doesnher game differ from Evina's?

From my observations tonight...
Jazmine goes straight at the basket and Evina likes to swing wide or go for the finger-roll.
Jazmine has some catching up to do to get to Evina's level on defense. But I think it is a familiarity thing,m not a deficiency. (Evina has obviously worked on lateral movement this summer. Her side movement is more )
Both love the "dimes"
Both can shoot from anywhere.

I think they get Boston, but jones still has a final visit to Oregon unless she cancels and commits to Uconn.

Holly is going to have to play KK, simply because we need her contributing for the next 3 seasons, and she needs PT if she's going to improve. How much better would C Green be now if she'd been given some of Russell's frequently unproductive minutes last year? Lockwood needs to be working with her close range shooting.

I'd be a lot harder on Westbrook. Somebody needs to be working on her shooting mechanics. And I'd sit her on the bench until her FT shooting improves. No excuse for the starting PG to be shooting 3-8 from the line.

I'm not sure who you guys were watching last night but I sat there and watched the entire game in person and KK was strong but ran out of gas too soon, but that girl played a heck of a game. . . she fought for positioning on offense and demanded the ball when she got position. She rebounded even harder. she played that position much stronger then I expected her to. I think both her and Green played the paint and the rebounded exceptionally well

I just watched the replay. Wow. Our freshmen have more confidence and composure than I’ve ever seen from any class on day one. Zaay & Rae are incredibly active on both ends of the floor. Zaay is deliberate offensively and always looking to get her shot off or attack the basket. Collins can guard any position on the court. I’m truly happy all 4 ladies chose to be Lady Vols.

As for the upperclassmen, Meme lets her man blow by her on defense and often calls for help. I’m not sure if she was pressing but she really needs to improve her man defense.

I had hoped that Harris and KK would be more confident offensively. Not sure if it has to do with playing behind Russell but they appear tentative when taking shots or facing contact. They’ll have to improve in those areas in order for the team to excel.

When Evina and Massengill were on the court together, Massengill took over PG duties and Evina slid to the 2. That may be a useful combination in future games.

Chemistry on the team is much better. Haven’t seen that many smiles in a long time. I get the feeling that whatever bad mojo that had plagued the team these past 2-3 years is finally gone...

This team will have ups and downs but I’m definitely looking forward to watching them. Go Lady Vols and keep your eyes on Zaay! That lady is something special.

Was she a good FT shooter in high school and is this all mental, or does she just have bad form? Unfortunately, the two PGs from yesterday went 3-11 from the FT line, so it might be best to just stick with whichever player is running the offense better.

This line up just got me Hella Excited , heck you can move Jordan around anywhere in this line up honestly 1-4.

Burnell i think will get the start on the wing. Collins is not a center and last night game was against a team with no player over 6-0. Look for Key to take over the 5 spot

I like how physical KK is and if I was Holly I would tell her to go as hard as she could for three four minutes and she will go to the bench for a rest. I like Green a lot better in the up tempo or Collins. I like the quickness of this team hopefully they can learn to guard without fouling. Giving teams 28 line attempts is something we cannot do.

I enjoyed the game. I personally would continue to sub 5 at a time to get everyone as much playing time as possible. I would also press all the time and keep pressure on the ball without overcommitting. When we play an outside shooting team, I would stay on my opponent on the perimeter to challenge the kick out and let the post play help defense on the slasher. It looks like we have shot blocking ability on both first and second teams. I like to see players enjoying themselves. Pretty good first game. Looks like what needs fixing' can be fixed. If they stay into the games mentally, this team will be extremely hard to beat.

Yeah, Westbrook needs gives us more, hopefully it was fluke game but she looks the same as last year, poor shooting percentage, poor free throw percentage, no rebounds, 8 assists. She has to give us more, if we want to be elite. She's no Sabrina for sure, I see a confident player in front of the cameras, but I don't see that player on the court. Her going to basket or the rim and Jaz going to the rim is night and day! Only one game, we shall see. Holly loyalty to those players who are producing or you'll lose this competitive class.

KK, not to worried, she just needs to bang, going against smaller post is challenging at first. Go Lady Vols.

Keys got to work on strength and her footwork. I don't see her coming in taking the spot from KK, and dont forget about Lou! Lou at the five spot who can shoot the three will be a nice combination too, imagine 6'6 player have to guard her in open space.

Nah They get jones more so than boston . Aaliyah is most likely ND bound while Haley is still deciding between Stanford & UCONN .
