Game Thread Lady Vols vs Georgia

Listening to the announcers of the UConn/Cincy game. They were talking about watching UConn practice. Said there was very little dribbling during practice. Said they worked on passing drills for two hours. That's the difference.

It says a lot when you can play like crap and still win the game. The LadyVols buckled down when they had to.

I'd like to occasionally see us be more like UConn where you beat a top 20 team by 35 and like we used to do when we had the three Meeks.

UConn is playing Cincinnati Bearcats right now & the last I looked UConn was up by 50 points in 2nd half....71-21.

The key point here is when we had the "Meeks." That small phrase means that the LVs had, hands down, the best player in the game at the time, and two freshman who probably were in the top 5 of all players in the game at that time (with Catch probably #2). Plus, that 1998 team had a quality and experienced point guard and excellent bench depth. It was one of the all time great college women's b-ball teams.

So heck yeah, I would love to see the LVs dominate games just like that legendary group. Honest, I really would; that would be SOOOOH great. And I would love Holly to be the greatest coach in the game, as the 1998 team also had. That would be even more AWESOME!!!

Now back to reality and the team we ACTUALLY have on the court. For THIS team and, playing in an era of much greater competitive parity, grinding out conference wins while missing a key player (Jones, not to mention Russell) and getting some quality development time for the freshman, well that is not a bad night. Your fave Dunbar even nailed down a 3!:clapping:

I think this team right here and now is capable of a lot more than what they produce. You have two posts the quality of Harrison and Graves and you don't get any more out of them than that? How they play together just doesn't make sense. The best word to describe our offense is sluggish. Has been for awhile. No reason for that. We should be working a lot of high low post action and we never do. Why?

They work the high low in some games fairly well, including stretches against LSU. They struggle with that when teams pack the paint and then the LVs don't make them pay by hitting the outside shot. As you have correctly noted before Izzy getting in foul trouble or a mental funk does not help.

I think the coach made a less than optimal decision when she pulled Izzy and Graves early in the game. Izzy had one foul and I could see being cautious but Graves should have stayed on the floor to see if she get going a bit more.

I can easily agree on some degree of under achievement on the offensive end. But on most nights, the team is just a notch above their SEC comp. and on magical nights, like Texas A&M, they can compete with the top teams. They don't have the quality of the 1998 or the current UConn team. So, there is no point to continue to compare the Honda accord to the Ferrari.

If they get to the final 4, I am pretty sure that it will be through a scrappy, ugly, and defensively driven effort.

I didn't realize Georgia's coach has been there as long as he has.
