Game Thread Lady Vols vs Kentucky

I truly hope Massengale is back on Thursday and that this loss hurts, maybe it will be a wake-up call for this team

it's not that i'm blaming Simmons for the entire loss but it's that bad pass she had in the last minutes or seconds when we had a 69-68 advantage over Kentucky that i have a problem with, the decision making on that play was careless. then Burdick got the rebound back with a lot of time left and Holly didn't use a timeout as soon as we had gotten the ball back and Burdick was close to having a turnover when she got trapped. Holly drew up a play for Simmons to take a three ball when she should have drawn something for Graves or Izzy to go inside. Simmons almost came up with a steal but the ball got knocked out of bounce inadvertently by Carter.

Mental lapses lead to turnovers, and mental lapses are a result of poor practice habits and poor coaching. Holly is not a stern disciplinarian, and it's shows up as an undisciplined team on the floor.

Coaches don't cause turnovers, missed layups, or free throws

True however specifically speaking about turnovers; a continual pattern (which we have) can be pinpointed to lack of discipline and crisp play making. Since this is an issue that appears to be plaguing more than one individual, I would argue that it one of two reason has to be the explanation (1) the coaches haven't made it a point of emphasis or (2) the methods used aren't working.

Go watch UConn play and tell me about their passing. I have to believe part of that is due to what he demands of his players.

22 turnovers hard to win any game with that many. You cut that to twelve hit four more shots out of those ten possessions you win by 4.

true, for the coach it goes something like this: miss another layup and you're coming over here to sit with me, or...turnover the ball again and you're meeting me in the gym an hour early or work on your free throws in practice or put extra time in...game time is not the time to practice.

what we see play out time and time again, is no accountability. players not accountable to each other and coaches not holding them accountable. the reason people wanted to play for pat summitt or geno auriemma is because they know these coaches demand excellence. that's not to say that they wouldn't lose some, but you best believe they left it all on the floor. if they didn't, then coaches held them accountable. tough love is at times required.

this team is all talk...they know what to say when being interviewed and i'm starting to believe that they believe the sh&% they say. i never hear anyone say i let down my team.

Holly needs to lose the cool demeanor in a few games and pull all the starters if she has to, in order to strip them of their sense of entitlement. She needs to stop applauding them for half-ass effort.

the lady vols were not ok believing they could be a #1 seed early on in the season and now they're setting themselves up to be a 3 seed. smh

As of now i'm only sure about UCONN and Notre Dame getting a one seed. not sure which two teams will be the remaining one seeds between Stanford/Duke/South Carolina/Louisville. Tennesse is looking at a 2/3 seed right now.

Team needs to be correcting these turnovers understanding a good pass from a bad one. The necessity of making good decisions. The season is almost over if they can't get this corrected we want be in the tournament long. It is taking to long to get this done has to be on Holly and the coaches that we continue to revert back to these bad turnovers.

Truly don't understand the Holly hate. Does she need to get more angry, yes, but all the people that are mentioned should have been hired by TN, if available, are having average seasons at best. Other than UConn which I hate btw there is no complete team this season. Look at the top 25 many teams with 6 or 7 seven losses.

I think were a two seed wish we could get in with Stanford best chance to get to final four. We almost had them at home bad decisions down the stretch once again.

Would be interesting to see how the seeding play out, they would also have a good chance been in a region with Duke.

Put a fast, athletic 6 seed in their bracket and they may not survive the first weekend.

In one year, Wes Moore has taken NC State from an NIT team to a top 10 team. He also beat UT last year as UTC's coach. Before Moore, NC State had only made the NCAA tournament once in the last 6 years.

I think the issue is that people have formed expectations based on the recruiting rankings of our players coming in. Tennessee has had several top 5 classes the last few years without top 5 results.

Is it possible these players were over rated? Sure. Is it likely that many of them were over rated--not likely.

Thats the rub--a lot of people are irked by the fact we are getting beat by teams with inferior talent.

Until we have more players like Carter, who refuse to take a possession off, we will struggle. Our defense was average at best today. Maybe Nared, and Middleton will bring that. Tucker too. Today we also missed Massengale as another ball handler. Carter was off today

We have hit the snooze alarm too many times this year. All you had to do was look at Kentucky's quickness and shot selection to see that we needed our A game today. Somehow we showed our C game and the results showed the difference. Finger pointing for who was at fault...need a wall size mirror and everyone involved with this team needs to be in front of that mirror with their finger pointing at themselves.
