Game Thread Lady Vols vs Kentucky

Without Izzy the ceiling is much lower. The way she screamed...smh I was trying to get on the court to help.

Middleton did look good early against weak teams but I think she had had time adjusting not only to the speed but also the strength. Carter is one of the best athletes I have see. With confidence she could be great.

She(Middleton) just isn't in sync with the teammates yet, when they get used to each other, she'll be great....

I've seen her try to set up people with nice passes but they seem surprised and miss it. She always feed Harrison well.

Next year Middleton will be a STAR, mark it down..... :)

You know I've never been a big fan of Matthew Mitchell, but it was def a classy move for him to send his team over to show izzy support.

Just got back from game and watching recording.
What did Epps say after the first game? Announcers referred to it.
Anyone heard re Izzy?

Oh, my: are we saying now That Reynold's has a concussion issue? What the hell? I've never seen anything like it. Been following UT basketball for 20+ years and don't think I ever heard a player with a concussion issue until last year. Now, every time we look up somebody is dizzy. Hope Reynolds is OK, of course. Speaking of head injuries, how exactly did Jones hit her head, did anyone see it? Fall to the floor? Just curious.

Congats to Massengale. I've criticized her because her play has been BAD--but she looked like a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT player in the second half. Was it the injury to Izzy? Should it take an injury to get you to play well? No, it should. Congrats--and keep showing the same confidence and toughness we saw in the 2nd half.

The concussions are a bit odd. The only ones I've heard of have been quarterbacks in football and they are usually for the one game they got hit. I had a concussion playing baseball. I slipped on first base because it had been raining and hit my head. My short term memory left me. I was pitching that game, too. It's on tape. There's one point I'm warming up in between innings and I laugh and say "I have no idea where I am". I was 15 at the time back in 1991 and maybe I should have been pulled. After the game, I am on tape again asking my dad if we should maybe go to the hospital and he said, "Nah, you're fine" :)

Anyway, to have 3 players in 2 years having "concussion" problems is odd. I'm not saying it's not legitimate ... it's just odd.

These concussions are quite odd. I've never seen this before. I hit my head a few time taking charges in college and i was fine. Hopefully they will get better though.

Conclusions are not that rare in any sport, but everyone is now much more focused on them and players generally aren't allowed to just 'shake it off' anymore. Most college ADs are now running baseline tests on all their athletes and retesting any time a head injury occurs which is a great thing. Uconn has had a few players miss games the last few years after getting a head knock. And there was a player for Cal I think a few years ago who was told she couldn't play anymore after a series of concussions. She ended up transferring to TX? and was allowed to play after sitting out a year. Everyone was pretty nervous about her for the final two years.
Really hope it is just one game for her. And here is hoping Izzy looked worse than it was. Never, never like to see any player go down. Uconn has had a few over the years and it is always dreadful.

I am not sure what Holly was mad about since Izzy just came down wrong. She may have been trying to miss a KY player who was laying on the ground which made her land awkwardly. It did not look like a foul but I didn't want to watch it again so I didn't replay it.

Voluble,it was definitely a foul, but one of those that doesn't get called much in rebounding situations. Izzy had position on the board with a Kentucky player down on her left. She was hit by a Kentucky player who first tried to go through Burdick, bounced off her, stepped on Izzy's foot and then her full weight went into Izzy's knee. There was no way Izzy could move to lessen the blow because of the weight on her foot. It was hard to see and Izzy is likely gone for the year,as knees are not made to bend the way hers was forced to try. Also I understand why Holly was upset, because Izzy has been hammered all year with very few calls made by officials. Izzy has been a punching bag for opponents all year, and to me,that explains why Holly was not t'd up.
