Game Thread: Lady Vols Vs LSU; Thurs Jan 9th ; Home game; 6:30 PM Eastern; SEC+ stream

That means we’ve been successful. It’s when your coaches don’t leave that you have problems.
You do realize that sometimes assistants leave for other valid reasons. CKC needs assistant coaches who are experienced and are not afraid to tell her when something is not going to work. She doesn't need "yes whatever you say" assistants.

And beating all the second tier SEC teams is not going to make up for the fact that we cannot beat a top tier team. That has been the problem with the last few coaches. They all could beat the second tier teams.

I don't want a team that is the best of the "also rans" - I want a team that can play with and BEAT the best.

Not sure you’re firing on all synapsis if this was your response.

Pretty sure my explanation was assistant coaches helping the program be successful. You take that as you want.

So you don’t subscribe to the beat the teams you’re supposed to beat model. My condolences.

Then your going to need to be patient somewhat until we build the talent level up a little more. She had three players when she got here built that up with some portal player has recruited the number one or number two class considering what media you follow.

Also were not an also ran, but were going to have some difficulty beating top ten teams just as every other team does and every other top ten team has beating each other. Don't have the talent of SC, Texas, or LSU yet, but were getting there probably next season. Oklahoma probably as much talent and just needed to play slighty better on a couple of possessions to win that one. Well guess that goes for LSU as well.
Plus I wouldn't get to upset if we lose to SC and Texas two of the most talented teams in the country this season. Coaching, a system, any of it seldom beats better talent. It can happen, but not very often.

If we get some bigs like Big Oh we’re in business. We lack a physical defensive presence that is also athletic enough to play the offensive style. Big Oh is that.

That’s what sets South Carolina apart most seasons. They generally have very athletic bigs who can play two way basketball. Even Kamilla, at her size, was very mobile and played both ends well.

Definitely all players on the roster eligible to comeback do so, the incoming class and the right two portal players look out for Tennessee next season and hopefully the class on 2026 will be another top five including Big Oh.

I can’t commit to reading 38 pages so I apologize if this has all been said. Exciting that the board is able to generate 38 pages per game when a couple years ago there would be 12 pages on a game thread.

Very happy for Kaniya Boyd going 2 of 3 from 3. It looked like a confidence builder. Now she needs to carry that over. She seems like she is exactly what Kim’s system needs. She is so quick, she’s a pest on defense and does seem to get in there disrupt the opponent.

Ayodele is aggressive as heck and looked to contribute solidly in her 2 minutes.

Latham is steadily showing her bonfires.

Hopefully the coaching staff realizes this and we start seeing more minutes for them.

Where was Tess? Did she even play?

Possibly Jewel’s plus minus is related to the group of people she is playing with or the sub patterns. If she remains in the game during an opponent’s run when everyone else is subbed out, then she is gonna have worse numbers, but possibly she stays on because Kim expects her to lead the team and right the ship. Also, it could be due to who she is on the floor with in subbing patterns as there are a couple who actually look like a liability on the team and would affect numbers of everyone when those players are on the floor. The eye test says she doesn’t have this tremendous negative impact that the +/- says. It’s also very easy to pick and choose stats to create the narrative you want, which abuses the purpose of statistics. Jewel appears to be invaluable to this offense, and defensively she does not appear to nearly be the liability people claim. She seems to end up with rebounds in very timely situations, and is in and around on defensive plays. There are so many more players that get completely abused on defense.

Tess ankle injury may be ready for Arkansas.

things are looking brighter in this recruit

I am not so sure. I think the OK and LSU games showed the LVs can match up pretty well once they stop letting teams have easy fast break points.

When they are all in synch (which has happened in many game stretches), there is a sum is greater than the parts things going on.

We are bit "thin" (Literally and metaphorically) in the post but if Jillian can bottle what she did against LSU, the team may be able to manage that discrepancy.

If you read some of the posts in this thread from the same posters over and over you would think the outcome of the OKLA and LSU games were blowouts.
I mean it’s really something that you laugh off.
Tennessee is 3 points short of being a Top 5-10 and undefeated.
They aren’t lacking in talent, size, etc. They aren’t thin. They aren’t rebuilding.
The LVs just loss two games at the buzzer back to back.
That doesn’t mean they can’t beat a Top 10 team.
That’s flawed logic.
It means this time they didn’t beat OKLA and LSU.
I’m pretty sure LSU is still looking for their first win against South Carolina in several years.
Doesn’t mean they can’t beat South Carolina. I’m also sure some of LSU fans won’t instantly write the team off if or when they lose again to South Carolina.

Doesn’t matter if you lose by 1 or 31 an L is an L.

Agree. And give this team time to gel . Lot of different players from different styles of play. Full court defense is hard to get settled in knowing all the responsibilities depending on where the difference offense players are positioning. Some will get it some probably want some just don't fit the system. That's just part of CKCs philosophy. She likes to sub to stay fresh and wear teams down. GLV 💥

Not conceding any game we have left. Certainly we could win them all. We certainly can play with any of those teams and as you say where the big problem comes in with all of them is post postion. One Candace Parker and we suddenly become the best team in the league.

We do need better post play. And you put Candace Parker pretty much any team in the league would be favored to win. Our post just needs to play stronger but they seem to like to fade away from contact.

Even next season we have enough guards, forward etc. One strong post player changes everything. I'd like to see Jill and Allyssa get most of the minutes at the five still could play Spearman at the four. I think those two do a better job on the boards and defensively against other posts.
