Game Thread Lady Vols vs South Carolina

With Deshields out there the offense does not flow. It is either her gunning or throwing it away- no one knows what to do.

I'm convince Diamond needs to be motivated to play (with this team) and it's certain teams/players that motivate her. It shouldn't be that way but based on what I am seeing and how Holly has coach (or lack there of) that is my assessment. If ever allowed to truly just be "Diamond" I think we would see a much better team

Thats because we don't have an offense, everyone standing around wondering who is going to take the shot

I'm wondering what Carter is doing on some of the offensive plays, she's to the right and just goes back and forth running about 3' each time....

It's clear to see the chemistry thing, Diamond tries to pass her teammates can't catch the ball. Near the end of the first we score and she sets up to press only for us to no longer be in the press (she looks back at Holly with her hands in the air like wtf are we doing) we should be pressing SC at all times they do not have any guards (outside of Mitchell) who could possibly get by us. People say Diamond is selfish, sometimes I wish she would really selfish and just say bump it because she seems to be one of a few who really seems to want it

Amen...additionally, Diamond is a better player in transition. She's not accustomed to having to slow down every play for Holly to call something from the bench. She knows that if they can run, they may get some easy points. During the last glory years where Alexis Hornbuckle or Candace Parker would lead the fast break we'd get easy points. Gone are the days....

Exactly. We run jack and shxx for an offense so we have to play one on one every time in the half court. She's about our only hope if that's what we run

Yup! I've said it before and I will say it again, I think Holly wants to be the star/get all the praise. Which is hurting this team. She wants all the headlines to be about her which is why I don't think she is starting Diamond (you can't say she isn't better than Reynolds or Carter who rarely shows up to play offensively) and why Dunbar who scores 3 3's in a row in a quarter does not get back in the game

and you are wrong. It's a team sport. She is "just Diamond" a lot on the court--and that is precisely the problem. She is "just Diamond" when she makes her many flashy passes, half of which end up in the stands. She is "just Diamond" when she plays lazy defense--standing up, jogging around; she is "just Diamond" when she takes various jumpers--and I'm fine with her making moves and going up--but she misses too many. She's a prima donna--that's the problem with DeShields. Could a better coach do a better job of motivating her? Yes, probably--but players have a responsible to motivate themselves.

Nared already responsible for at least 4 or 5 turnovers

You are correct i don`t understand why is Holly trying to play her in the post of offense ?. Let her roam stop all the dribbling and shoot the 3.
