Game Thread Lady Vols vs St. John's in the NCAA Tournament

It sort of depends on how good the competition is in a given year. If I recall, Candace wasn't physically able to play her freshman year or she would certainly have contributed.

I agree. Experience is not what's needed; having good players is what matters...as we've seen with Catch/Chamique as freshmen and Stewart last year.

If you're good, then it doesn't matter if you're a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior, and being an upperclassmen doesn't mean you have any sort of edge. Otherwise, Lawson, Gwen Jackson and Ashley Robinson would have a NC title.

Candace did redshirt her Freshman year, but when that group were sophomores and Candace was a redshirt Freshman, they didn't win either. It's just a common sense that upperclassman by and large give you the best chance to win a championship. They have more experience, wisdom, and physically their bodies have had more time to mature, too. If UCONN, Notre Dame, us, South Carolina, Louisville, Stanford, Baylor, or a ton of other teams win the championship this year, it won't be because of Freshmen.

North Carolina is one of the only teams left that I can think of off the top of my head that rely on a Freshman and had the referees not hosed UT Martin on North Carolina's home court, they'd be out of the tournament already losing to a #13 seed. And, that is directly related to the fact that North Carolina RELIES on a Freshman.

Our worst season in 2008-2009 and first round lost was BECAUSE we relied on so many Freshman and lost our upperclassman leadership.
