With the type of offense we run we need a big time center. Hopefully 6-5 Russell next year is the answer.

Yeah, that seems to cover the paint well but leaves a lot out in the corners. Do we usually run that? It seems like the way they are getting those corner 3s some adjustments would be needed. Then again that girl who hit a a bunch apparently wasn't that great earlier this season, so perhaps we didn't see her as a threat?

You won't beat the number one team by playing 20 minutes of basketball. I'm not really impressed with Stanford but they just play really smart basketball and execute well.

I would much rather meet them in the tournament than Baylor or UConn.

The zone extends to cover the shooters but that is still how you beat a zone --- with outside shooting. Every defense gives something up. Ogwumike is their best player and she plays in the paint so you play zone to clog the paint and you give up the outside shot more.

I assume the problem with running a woman to woman here just getting beat by a more talented athlete?

This is going to be a really good team, Nerd. Somewhat young and inexperienced. We've had two poor shooting outings against two of the top three teams. We'll be in the NCAA playoffs and see how that goes. Hopefully, we're on path to be peaking by then. Lot of work between now and then. I'll have to disagree with those thinking this team isn't putting forth the effort.

Yeah, we lack a bit of size in the paint so you can make up for it by packing the paint a little. Ogwumike is a tough match-up as well.

The other thing with man to man is that with a young team it is easy to get lost on defense and leave your man open. Stanford runs a Princeton offense which can generate some bad match-ups that way. Did you notice when Simmons ended up guarding their center on a few possessions?

It is all part of the chess match between coaches.

Yeah, if this is the least impressive team we have fielded in years, then life is great.

I saw a lot of good stuff in that second half and we just need to keep pounding the rock.

That first half was just a mess of poor shots and terrible looks. Way too much of running into the paint, and trowing the ball wildly at the hoop, despite being covered by 2 or 3 people.

The Vols have a habit of shooting poorly in big games. That has to change. It doesn't matter what kind of team you have, if you can't shoot in big games, you lose.

they will get better,a lot of coaching up to be done for the young players,but they did show a lot of hustle in the 2nd half,now they need to work on starting a game that way and i still have no idea why a shooting slump is in progress,I'd bet CHW would love to know why too lol
