The Lady Vols will get their first REAL test of the season this Sunday.

After that game we will know just how good the Lady Vols really are.

Just watched the ESPN3 replay. Man that was fun. Quite a few highlight reel plays from lots of different players. Westbrook is developing at lightning pace. She is becoming a consistent scorer and her passing is quite impressive, on some plays, Magic Johnson-like.

This was a good game for TN in terms of playing against a fast, high press, kamikaze oriented team with a long bench. The LVs fought hard, played smart moved the ball exceptionally well, and handled the press with aplomb until mid 4th quarter when I think some fatigue and perhaps the unconventional mix of players, led to some sloppy plays.

This team is much more fun to watch than last years and they are playing together on a night in, night out basis that only periodically occurred last season. I think they will more than hold their own in this upcoming stretch of harder games.

A comment - The November - December games have been most valuable for the freshmen to discern what no-longer-works from high school and AAU based on pure superior athleticism. Hayes is not yet sufficiently strong to zip passes at a speed required for completion at the college level. I remember more than a few freshman talking about the need to get stronger following their first year. They are all competing well on what is a most steep learning curve.

The Freshman combined for 42pts, 25rbs, 26 asst, and 2blks in tonight’s game against Troy! They’re ready and legit!

Texas is rated higher (they are supposed to win!)
Texas has more AA (they are supposed to win!)
Texas has more experience (they are supposed to win!)

That being said; let’s see if we can play with the #2 team in the nation!!!! 🤔

The team needs to get use to her passes. Westbrook can pass on a dime. Westbrook plays at amazing speed for a rookie.

I have seen the freshmen play for the top 10 teams and our group look like one of the best. I can’t wait to see how they play against Texas. Russell and Nared need to ball out but it will be good to see how the freshmen handle the pressure and athleticism of a team like Texas. I believe they will be fine.

Can't wait for this weekend! By the way who did the crazy scheduling where we play 3 games during a week in January (at S. Carolina, at ND, home vs Miss St.)

Loved the game, the most disappointing thing the game for me was MR trying to shoot over 3 defenders instead of kicking it back out to an open player. Should know better by now.

No surprise for people who know how the game of basketball is meant to be played! However , the main difference between this year and last .....

All Americans playing as a TEAM and All Americans playing as individuals !!!!! I’ll let you figure which is which ? 😈

I agree with that. The girls need to be tested. And I feel they have been. Look at the past few year's teams...By this point, they were showing definite signs of bad synchronicity. This team, staff, VolNation and many other fans have waited for this for a while.

It's ok to be aware, just not scared. . . Texas is a more talented team than Troy. Most say more talented than we are. OK...on paper....But do they have our chemistry? . . Talent v chemistry...I take the latter. Especially if it is talent laden as well.


I look at this from a coaching standpoint, not my heart. CHW has the perfect storm. All of us coach's have had it if we coach long enough. . . As an athlete it is called being in a "zone". . . I've been there as both,, When it felt like you couldn't give a game away.
As a coach it is the "perfect storm."
It feels just as great, as it does, when you are a player, shooting at an ocean.

High scoring game Sunday. If our girls play solid defense they win. Give up easy shots they lose. But I feel they earn some respect. Lady Vols 80 Lady Horns 75
