Game Thread: Lady Vols Vs UCONN. ; Thurs Feb 6th ; Home game; 6:30 PM Eastern; ESPN...WIN 80-76

these attendance numbers are really fantastic for her first season. i am so happy to see more people loving the lady vols. a night to remember.

SPARKING THE SUMMITT: A season-high crowd of 16,215 fans attended Food City Center during the matchup against the Huskies, and its presence was felt. It was the largest Lady Vol crowd in the venue since 18,563 watched the Florida matchup on Feb. 26, 2012, when the Big Orange posted a 75-59 win. It marked the fifth 10,000-plus crowd of the 2024-25 season. The other 10,000-plus crowds: South Carolina (12,033), LSU (10,220), Oklahoma (11,321) and Winthrop (11,152). UT is now averaging 10,461 over 13 home dates.

Winning the game will be the second happiest moment of the day for Kim. First will be when she gets home and sees her son. Things are in the proper perspective for her now and sometimes that takes some of the pressure off. She looked very relaxed out there tonight.

One of the best things about this win was how everyone contributed, and everyone played well. No one had to play their absolute best, but we shared the ball and kept the dumb mistakes to a minimum. That shows we have found a style of play that is repeatable. Not that there weren't plenty of heroic plays spread amongst the players. Boyd's high speed layup was the one that got us out of our seats. And the rebounding was phenomenal. I don't know what got that fixed but it was fixed in a big way tonight.

It will be interesting to see if they summon this same intensity and confidence for the LSU game. It would be huge to pick up a road win against a team like that. Hopefully we don't have a hangover from the big win.

If only I had not been booted from the boneyard a week or so ago, I could go there tonight and see the carnage. Oh well, let me just imagine, sometimes that is even better than the real thing. What a great game by UT.
I went there all in shambles blaming the players and Genos timeout for the loss. I think a sense of humble pie has struck them as I’m seeing a lot of posts over there saying they are not an elite team and will be happy to make the elite 8/s16. Already claiming a loss to sc as well smh. Geno is Geno that’s saying a lot so I’m still not convinced they will bow out early in the tourney.

She is a recruiting tool for the Huskies. My nickname for her is "CT Lobot."
Yep she is the lead recruiter for them she can make an out of bounds save attempt by a UConn player become the national freshmen of the year with one comment . Helps to work at espn when your a graduate of UConn.

Worked out great. Coach Kim got her first big win and Geno got his butt kicked. First time I've ever had to root against Sarah Strong. I watched her high school team win the last three state championships on my 49th, 50th, and 51st birthdays. Love that kid, but why'd she have to go play for the Conn artists?

Debating whether or not to wear a Tennessee shirt when I see her dad tomorrow. He still coaches there and they're playing Friday night. :)

It's true of every fanbase, we all overestimate how much it means, 40 minutes of basketball. (reading this forum during 1st halves, often fans overestimate how much 10 minutes means)

UConn is a really good team, I don't know what game their fans were watching if they really don't think that they just lost a shootout to another really good team. They'll be fine.

Chris Low has a good article on the game.
As the final seconds ticked off and the celebration erupted, two of the Lady Vols' veterans, Jewel Spear and Samara Spencer, immediately sprinted to embrace Caldwell, who only 17 days ago was in the hospital delivering her baby boy, Conor. Caldwell was back at practice the following week.

"She told us when she got here that she wants this year to be the year that we do something special," Spear said. "She didn't want to wait, and that's special being a senior, hearing that from a coach that believes in us, and we saw how quickly she returned after having her baby. It's just the sacrifices that she continuously makes for us. It's the little things that we do for her, which is just playing hard.

"That's all she really asked for."

She has brought her system and the players are buying in. She is also doing it with many players still around from the previous staff. All of them have bought in, we are clearly better under Caldwell. I can’t till we see a few more recruiting classes of players she recruits. Congrats to the staff and the players as they battled hard as a unit tonight and kept up the intensity on both ends of the floor. Way to go Lady Vols!!!!
