Game Thread: Tennessee versus Florida

She would have scored 16 points Oh ! i forgot she was rejected by someone 5-8 again . And you think the LSU got her back to where she was playing before she hurt her knee ? hmm How many cupcakes did we play before she hurt her knee ? plain and simple her game needs a lot of work and she needs to get into game shape and i just don`t see that happening this season.

Indeed, KK does not look that much fitter this year than she did last year. I don't think the injury can explain it all. She does not seem to have put in the necessary conditioning work in the off season. (We contrast her to Cheridene who is maximizing her abilities this season and has become a physical beast)

KK's bum knee is clearly hurting her mobility and vertical leap but she was weak on those dimensions before the injury.

So is she a starter for you?

I hope you and CHW are right.
I like Kk and have since I saw her the first time in Atlanta in at 14 playing for FBC.

But I still see smaller forwards scoring on her at will on strong-side drives....Slow on defensive footwork and not being a natural shot-blocker makes her a target...If we insert her with a lead, there is less pressure on her to defend, as opposing teams usually turn to 3's to try to get back into a game.

But
We'll see.

And no, mtv, I do not make the lineups...

yet.

For the record, I am not disagreeing with you per se or advocating that KK should start. I was just reporting the info that Holly is talking as though she will be starting KK. Holly is wanting to run the classic and oh so predictable LV offense based on high - low ball movement. Guards get the ball into the post who either gets a shot or passes the ball if the double team comes. So, that scheme (for all its faults) needs a post to anchor it. That scheme did not work all that well when the team had Mercedes and KK is a lesser version. This line-up probably won't last long. I think the LVs will be in more a small ball line-up for the most of the game with Massengill, Westbrook, Zaay, and Davis (barring foul trouble to any of those players) carrying most of the offensive load and Cheridene slotting into the post and doing her Dennis Rodman (the sane Detroit era version) impersonation. I predict an iffy start and then the LVs take control in the 2nd half

If CHW goes to that "forcing the ball inside" mentality again (with THIS group), she would join Einstein in defining insanity.

As slow-footed as Russell was last year, she still could patrol the paint and change trajectories and block shots on drives....KK does not have MR's interior footwork.

Florida and Vandy are putrid. The next two games are absolute must wins for this team to make the tournament.
I saw Vandy play against South Carolina the other night and I liked how they ran the offense. They got three players back a week ago, but the girl from Dickson Tennessee(junior) went down, but does not look serious. If she is 100% she can be a problem for us.

I will be at the Vandy game on Sunday.

KK is a starter for me but no more than five minutes intervals. She becomes a liability after five minutes struggles to get up and down the court. This is not unusual even if her conditioning is good because she is big and husky. Grant Williams plays a lot of minutes but he always gets a couple minutes rest several times a game. She is one of our best players when it comes to efficiency and she also moves Davis to the three where she is more productive. We've been using Collins and Burrell at the four when she wasn't in the lineup the last game. I think that is the best we can do. If we put Davis there her game disappears something we can't afford to happen.

Green will be gone next year. And KK will most will have to step up so all this is good for her. We ain’t going nowhere for a ‘Ship. Let the girl play and work herself into form.
And hopefully we will get Lou back.

KK
Brown / Horston (Davis at the 4 and out Horston at the 1 or 2)
Davis
Zaay
Westbrook
Possible starters?
She will certainly play a lot of minutes next season, but we'll have the two freshmen and expect they will be capable of 20 minutes a game. I know they may have difficulty scoring in the SEC but rebounding is more about effort, height, and length something both have plenty of. I don't see them being any worse on defense both are averaging several blocks per game and Saunders just past 500 for her career. The post is a big liability this year I see it being somewhat less of one next season.

I agree with you on KK no more than five minutes intervals due to her conditioning. Davis should play the three i agree but for Holly to make Burrell 6-1 6-2 play the four most of the time is unfair. Not one time has she complained about playing the four. I`m also sure Davis had made it clear to Holly she is more comfortable playing the three. So i`m not gonna complain about Burrell few turnovers. You can play Collins 6-3 at the four but right now she committing way to many fouls.

Vandy looked good for large stretches against SC. They are healthy now, have size and have shooters. Sleep on UF, but Vandy will not be an easy game unless Tennessee brings their A-Game.

Looking back.... wasn't it great having Mercedes here for 4 years.... precluded the necessity of developing an offensive scheme of any kind.... just Get the ball inside to the big girl....!!!

On game tonight... i will go out on a limb and predict victory!

We do need some sort of inside game, whether it’s posting up our big guards or our post? KK is probably the only person on our front line who can score with her back to the basket. London has a good face up and she’s quick but not with her back at the rim.
Mimi is def more of a clean up and mid jumper . Lord please help her with that form. If only Rennia would post up against these smaller wings.

They really don't have a problem getting inside even with KK being the only real back to the basket player. If that were the case they wouldn't get so many O boards. Their issue is finishing consistently. How many times have you see Davis, Green, or whoever get there and the team gets 2 or 3 opportunities but can't finish? They don't necessarily need more moves they need to learn to excel with the ones they have. That's what the staff should work on first and only then do you introduce new moves.

I would love to know why she passed that ball not more than 3 feet away to a player who was about to run into two Florida defenders. I'm not even trying to be persnickety -- I would genuinely love to know what she was thinking.

Florida can't shoot except for number 3. They aren't that good at rebounding either. This looks like we could win this one by halftime.

I'm just gonna think that some of the stupid things we do is because most of the team is sophomores and freshmen. I do not understand however why we have post players out on the perimeter trying to guard perimeter players. It is ignorant and both Collins and KK have got beat badly for points.

Holly has to start taking London out after her first foul. Because, as soon as she picks up number 1 the second is a few seconds away.
