Game thread - Tennessee vs. Fordham

Well, sounds like it's going to be a long season while these guys go through some growing pains. It will be interesting though.
There will be some great nights. There will be some awful nights, especially on the road. That said, this will be a quality team come February.

Good win for the Vols. This Fordham team looked much better than their name. Lots of Freshman mistakes, and the officiating thus far this year has made games nearly unwatchable. Way, way too many touchy fouls, 4 "carries" from the same ref, and too many offensive fouls in the paint.

We've got some horses, ya'll. Just don't get your sights set too high this year. I'm with Hat: by season's end, we'll be dang tough.

I think there's been a poster on here touting Fordham as a tough opponent for some time. I wonder how that clairvoyant gentleman is doing?

For those that got to watch the game... how did the Freshman look? About the same as the MTSU game?

Like talented. . . .Freshmen. Lots of athleticism, but way too many mistakes. Pearl will fix that as the season goes on.

Didn't see the MTSU game, but I liked what I saw tonight. Freshmen are going to make mistakes playing at that tempo.

Danke, to the both of you.

The MTSU game was a whistle blowing fest interrupted by a sporadic sprint up and down the court. I didn't get much from that one.

That wouldn't be you now would it?

1. That's certainly how the NIT set things up. Baylor or Rice might give Gonzaga some trouble, as Fordham is a decent matchup against UT. That said, it would take a notable upset for any of those four to fail to reach MSG.

That will be interesting. I saw Fordham blow Temple out in Philly at the end of the season. Derek Wittenburg has a pretty good young team. Katz must have been confused, no sign of Valpo in the field.

The whistle-blowing was even more interrupting, tonight. Nearly unwatchable at times.

So are Belmont and UNC Wilmington playing right now? How's that going? Anyone watching/paying attention?

Please allow me to answer myself.

UNC-W leads 46-45 with 15:47 remaining in the game.

"I'm very happy with the win. We beat a good basketball team," Pearl said. "The quality of play may have set the game back a few years. I don't think Naismith intended for us to turn the ball over 55 times."

48 turnovers in 2 games.. They need to tighten up a little. Ok, they need to tighten up a lot.

I was at the game last night. Had to be one of the worst games I ever saw officiated. I bet they blew the whistle for carrying the ball 5 or more times. Strange! Tons of offensive fouls and a crap load of turnovers. With that said, Lofton carried the team. Late in the second half it seemed no one was even looking to shoot, they were just trying to get Lofton open. I thought Crews played well under the basket. Missed some easy putbacks but stayed with it for second, third rebounds. Chism looked solid hit at least three 15 footers from the baseline. Missed some easy layups though. Ramar did a good job at the point. He had some nice dishes to Lofton and a nice lob to Crews on a fast break for an easy dunk. Like the rest of the team he turned the ball over way to much, though. The other two freshman Tabb and Johnson played decent. Made some freshman mistakes often but, that is bound to happen. JuJuan wasn't on tonight like he has been in the first few games. Tough shooting night for him. Childress had a solid game showing he can step in and help out in the post. I really didn't notice Passley that much. He played some minutes but, I expected him to be more of a factor after the pre-season games. The Vols will need to play well tonight. UNC-Willmington looked decent in the game last night. But, we definately beat the best team in of the three last night. With that said, NYC looks like a real possibility.

Do you change your prediction from what you said before the season? Just wondering. I am optimistic for the future with a lot of freshman

I still think there will be considerable growing pains. This team will be solid by mid-February.

I guess the NCAA has stepped in. I don't know why in the world they would ban internet broadcasts of the NIT game other than greed..
