glad to have gotten one anyway. next weekend, uh -oh. may really get bombed !! hope not, but -----. this team just has no power at all. we have to start recruiting some sluggers, can't play "small ball" all the time in the sec and expect to survive.

Without question this team is offensively challenged. Adding a few big bats would help for sure but I think you can win the SEC without home run power in the lineup. The problem is that the guys in the line up that aren't providing any pop also aren't hitting for any average as well. Got to do one or the other: hit for average or power and right now the vols don't do either.

It's scary how similar South Carolina and Tennessee are. Both teams are greatly challenged offensively. I think our pitching is close to being on par. Ha this series beenin Knoxville, we win at least 2

Frye I enjoy reading you post but I have to you to task on this post. To say that the Vols pitching staff is close to being on par with the Cocks isn't accurate IMO. The Vols are starting guys they are hoping get thru 3 or four innings while the USCe is running bigtime prospects out there like they are a dime a dozen. As I stated in an earlier post the new bats close the gap considerably and allows lesser talented arms to be productive and that's what we are seeing IMO.

I believe we have 2-1/2 good weekend starters. There's more than one team in the league that have 1 or less.

I don't think SC has 3 quality weekend starters which is why they started a freshman for the first time last weekend.

I believe we have a great closer in Nick Blount and a shutdown middle reliever to stop the bleeding in Steckenrider. Hell! even Saberhagen has become a key guy.

By the end of the season Nick Blount will be a top-2 closer in the league and will easily set the UT save record. Zach Godley will be preseason All SEC next season and could be honorable mention in 2012.

Our losses have little to do with pitching and largely due to hitting.

I know it's just opinion, but our in last few seasons had always been lights out in summer leagues and really only sucked under Coach Moron and his Yes Men.

I would still put UT's staff (Top5-6 guys anyway) against South Carolina's

Well there are SEC loses where it had to do with hitting, and then pitching where to many runs scored, and then some where it was both.
This team has had a problem with hitting successful consistently vs top 25 teams.
