Garrett Wolfe for Heisman?

He is scary...........

Every one here in Buckeye land can now justify their defense only giving up 171 yards to Wolfe.

He won't win the Heisman and that will further prove that it doesn't go to the best player in the country. It goes to the best player on one of the best teams.

What does it prove? Putting up 171 yards and 0 TDs against Ohio States second string defense, which is letting NIU run the ball so that the game will be faster, is decent but nothing special. After that, he has put up numbers against Buffalo, Indiana St., and Ball State. Not exactly Heisman worthy!

I'm sorry, but when you're averaging 236.2 rushing yards per game with 11 TD's through 5 games, I don't care who you're playing. It's Heisman worthy. With his size, though, he won't be drafted highly in the NFL. He'll be pegged as a third down back for sure.

I definitely care who he is playing. Voters also care. Larry Johnson averaged over 200/game his last season at Penn State, however, he only put up about 70 yards against Michigan...no Heisman. You choose to play in the MAC, you choose to play subpar defenses, you choose to not ever have a chance at winning the Heisman.

What is Heisman worthy? More improtantly, why should anyone care.

Maybe he didn't choose to play in the MAC. Maybe he wasn't highly recruited coming out of high school. If he didn't get offers from good schools due to grades or for whatever reason. He may have had to go to the MAC because that was the best scholly offer he had.

Doesn't matter. Unfair as it is, like you said, best player on the best team wins the Heisman. Not the best player overall.

Maybe putting up the same numbers against the best defenses in the country???

Against Ohio State:
6 rushes for 13 yards in the first quarter (Tosu ends quarter up 21-0)
6 rushes for 44 yards in the second quarter (Tosu ends quarter up 28-3)
6 rushes for 27 yards in the third quarter (Tosu up 28-6)
6 rushes for 79 yards in fourth quarter (Tosu wins 35-12)

So, I'll give Wolfe the benefit of the doubt and say that he rushed for 20 yards against Tosu's first string defense, playing a real defensive scheme.

Stop with this best player overall junk. Imagine putting Coker, Hardesty, or Foster against Ball State, Buffalo, and Indiana State every week (in close games so that they would get carries for all 4 quarters.)

Why do so many people obsess over an award won by Andre Ware, Desmond Howard, Ty Detmer, Gino Toretta, Scott Frost, and Jason White?

Garrett Wolfe averaged 11 yds per carry against Buffalo, on 24 carries. Auburns fourth string running back ran for 114 on 7 carries against Buffalo (16.3 yards per.)

Could not agree more with that statement. That award has been bastardized as much as any trophy ever handed out.

Irons had a much much better O-Line blocking for than the O-Line that Wolfe had blocking for him. Wolfe is a heisman candidate and deserves to be mentioned with the best players in college football. He is doing what he is doing with offense geared to stop him. The argument about him gaining his yards against OSU scrubs is crazy because their scrubs are better than 3/4 of the players that No. Illinois has.

Does anybody know what happened around '88 to cause Heisman winners to go far downhill in talent? Before Andre Ware won it, the winners list is a who's who. After that, it's been bust after bust in the NFL, with the exceptions of Eddie George, Ricky Williams (sort of) and Carson Palmer.

Kenny Irons did not play in the Buffalo game. Ben Tate (4th string) came in, behind the 2nd and 3rd string offensive lines of Auburn, and ran for 16.3 yards per carry over 7 carries.

The argument still stands. He is not Heisman worthy.

Also, defenses are not just geared up to stop Wolfe, NIU is passing for over 200 yards a game also.

AMEN!!!!

Charles Woodson over Peyton Manning. Enough said.
One player made 3 great plays in the biggest game of the season to win the game. The other player made 3 terrible plays in the biggest game of the season to lose the game.

OSU had starters in well into the second half. Both sides of the ball.

I think there is no stronger endorsement of Woodson winning the Heisman than the fact that therealUT and I actually agree he was the rightful winner.

Last I checked it was an award for the best player in college football, not the award for the player who had a good game while someone else had a bad game. Hands down Peyton was the better player that year. It showed then and it is showing now in the NFL.

It is not an NFL award. It is for the college player that has had the most outstanding year, period! Peyton Manning had a worse year his senior season than he did his junior year. Nobody in here is saying Manning got robbed his junior year. In fact, Peyton had his lowest completion percentage in his career (HS, college, and NFL) during his senior year at UT.
