Gary Anderson and Oregon State parting ways

You don't have to take the money, tho. Forget about the contract.

It's a protection measure, I'm sure. I mean, without things like that, I'm sure there are plenty of schools out there that'd be firing coaches for a 6-6 season.

Yep... There's clearly either more to this story or a buyout agreement was reached.

It's a shame that's what people automatically think.

If I got paid $7M+ to do a job poorly in 2.5 years and I already had a few million in the bank, I would not feel good at all about taking a buyout.

The buyout doesn't seem like it should be for failures. It should be for coaches who did OK, but the team is looking for an upgrade.

Easy for you to say from your couch or desk

Maybe some booster gave him like 8 million or something and he can say this and the school wins by not having to pay the buyout.

A big reason for him leaving Wisky is that he wanted to change to a more of a spread type of offense and Alvarez wouldn’t allow him to do it.

Am I wrong tho?

Yes you are. They negotiated a contract. That's in it. It's part of the incentive to agree to leave Wisconsin to come coach for them. I fault no coach for taking their buy out. Don't like it then the issue is with the AD.

That makes me nervous. Like not even half, just walked away from 10 mil. He's definitely got something else lined up

Edit: even worse, 12 mil

Spurrier did the same for the Redskins, not sure of his contract situation before leaving South Carolina, though.

You're not wrong. You just have some people in here that don't want to entertain the idea that some people may have scruples.

Contracts are often based on what you've done up to that point. Some clauses protect one party. Some clauses protect the other. To hold someone to a contract isn't immoral.

That would be nice if it happened here. It won’t though. Butch will get everything owed, but it’s still better than him getting another year.

Be great if he would .. but. Regardless of how morally founded Jones is.. he isn't just going to walk away from 10 million.

Not what I was suggesting at all.

Oh! And by the way. Thank you mods for moving. Didn't know if the post would go in the pub or the NCAA forums.
