Gary Patterson gone

The Briles family literally hate TCU with a passion. Not sure why but it dates back to Art coaching HS ball in Stephenville. Both are better suited to coach at Tech but if the money were right then who knows.

Herman's name has been bounced around on the Baylor and Texas boards as a possible replacement for Fatterson. I guess they could probably do worse.

Harrell probably wouldn't get an interview unless TCU has to go deep down the list of candidates.
Didn't know that about Briles and TCU. I agree it would have to go pretty deep for them to end up with Harrell but I think he has a future as a HC. It might have to be a non P5 to start off.

Dude has a statue outside the stadium. Shi++y way of dealing with a school icon. Let him finish the season and then do what ya need.

I don't know all the details and maybe it was mutual, but come on................

They gave him the opportunity to finish the season and then retire with grace. In true Gary Patterson form he blew a fuse. He has disgraced the school in press conferences after every loss. You can get away with that when you are winning NY6 bowl games... not so much when you are losing.

So Patterson's interim coach is Jerry Kill... the same guy who left Minnesota because of health issues? Hopefully he has those under control as I remember him collapsing from seizures multiple times when he was the HC for the Gophers.

Yeah - not sure about that guy. He stepped aside in this overwrought, tear-soaked press conference and said he couldn't coach anymore because of the seizures, said he had no idea what he was going to do (which is legitimately sad, but it was very melodramatic). The seizures are obviously a real thing he deals with, but since then he's had coaching jobs at 3 different schools.

P5 football wasn't good to him. It was easier to play BYU, Utah and a bunch of dwarfs. Add one tough OOC game per year and the schedule was navigable.
But it wasn't like they entered the Big 12 and instantly became a flop. Their first 2 years as a member of the Big 12 weren't good, as you'd expect, but then they were a Big 12 co-champ/second place, a top 10 team nationally, and part of CFP discussion 3 out of the next 4 seasons.

That 2013-14 period I think just shot the expectations of their fanbase into the stratosphere, and he was ultimately the victim of his own success. Over the last 3+ seasons they've gone 21-22 (13-19), and they should be better than that, but if their fans think they should be 1st or 2nd in the Big 12 most years, and a top 10 team most years, that's way unrealistic. I know they are located in DFW, but they are a small private school that is not a traditional power and in a conference that is run/historically dominated by Oklahoma and Texas.

Reportedly has stabilized. But he’s also been working in administrative positions when not coaching…3 of the 6 seasons.

@BUBear what is the talk of who the actual leading candidate is? Is primetime really in consideration?

I'm thinking they really want Sonny Dykes. He's been really impressive with the talent that he has pulled from the transfer portal. If you can't get the talent straight out of high school then get it when they become homesick or fizzle out behind other 4* and 5* talent at other schools. Also Sonny has been beating them lately... can't beat'em then hire'em.

Do you think Deion even really wants the TCU gig? I mean even if he takes it, they do realize he would bolt faster than Kiffy should FSU come knocking.

If Norvell even survives this year, he is going to have to pull a rabbit out of his butt next year to save his job. I mean ACC championship game at a minimum.

Seems Prime Time may be better off staying where he his for another year and then seeing how things shake out. He's got his son playing QB. The school is going to give him all the support that it is capable of.

Sonny Dykes hired Art Briles former Baylor S&C coach at SMU and is now taking Kaz Kazadi with him to TCU. Coach Kaz is one of the Top 10 S&C coaches in CFB. Matt Rhule made a major mistake by not retaining Kaz when he hired his original staff. I wish Kaz had actually stuffed that "water" bottle down that drunk TCU fans throat the first season that Briles was here but the State Trooper probably saved that fan immeasurable pain.
