See reports coming out that it is going to happen.

What your thoughts? :shhh:

That's a great move for the hogs. They need to recruit Texas in a bad way because the in state talent here is below average - a Patterson hire accomplishes that.

If so, that sucks....and why we should have cut the cord with Dooley (let him coach out the year, but announce the decision to terminate his contract thereafter) and started the coaching search in earnest.

Patterson was my No.2. Will suck to see him come off the board, Gruden prospect vaporize, and then see Auburn beat us to Charlie Strong. I will be absolutely livid with the AD and Cheek if that occurs.

Been hearing that since Tuesday. the fly in the ointment could be Texas.. they like Patterson if Mack decides or they decide he should retire.

nothing formal likely to happen until after last weekend this month..

I just wonder if it would affect us in either a good way or a bad way if we pull the trigger?

Would he be a big name hire? I think so, but I'm not sure.

auburn is after Jimbo Fisher. Strong is # 2 on their board..

I don't see Fisher leaving a program in great shape, and located in a recruiting gold mine, to one that's in tatters, and harder to recruit to. Would be like us having Chip Kelly as our No.1. Ain't happening.

I can really see every team in the S.E.C. upgrading their head coach, except for us.

USC: Holtz < Spurrier
Bama: Shula < Satan
LSU: Miles = Satan
vandy: Chicken Farmer < Franklin
UK: Phillips < ?????
Auburn: Chizik < ?????
Arkansas: Smith < Patterson
Florida: Muschamp = (Urban) Crier
UGA: Donovan < Richt
MSU: Crooms < Mullens

Then there is us:

Tennessee: Kiffin > Dooley

If you haven't noticed, all of the other S.E.C. schools upgraded by hring their new coach or at least remained the same. We, on the other hand, regressed by hiring our current coach......

I would absolutely hate that. That would really hurt us. Because I don't see another big coach hitting the market until two years from now. If it doesn't work out with Dooley then we are going to be stuck with another project coach,

Okay, so there goes the only homerun hire that was likely to actually come here. Glad Hart is waiting until the end of the season. I'd hate for us to fire Dooley and hire a real coach without first seeing if Dooley can win that showdown with Kentucky.

You missed Ole Miss. Freeze is looking pretty good. At this rate, we could be at the bottom of the SEC for the next decade or more. It takes a special kind of stupidity to destroy a program like ours in such a short period of time, but damn, if Hart and Dooley aren't putting the nails in the coffin.

Arkansas has shown they will pay good money for a coach. (See Petrino as he made 3.75 million a year). UT has always gone on the cheap. Maybe they are trying to talk themselves into paying more. If they think about it very long, they won't have to worry about it as all the top coaches will be off the board.

I hope this isn't true. I'd sure like for him to stay on the table as an option for us. He's a damned fine coach and would be huge here.

There was a thread with a link to a newspaper article that suggested UT had Patterson in the bag but Hamilton picked Kiffin. If true, Hamilton singlehandedly ruined UT football. He got rid of a legend without an identifiable home run hire and then hired a NFL flameout that only had a job because if his dad (well, he kind of did the latter part twice) over a demonstrated great coach like Patterson. Hart either a) if he is going to fire Dooley, needs to have the successor lined up now and not let the good coaches get hired before we act or b) needs Dooley to take some act to try to restore faith in the program (i.e., fire Sal and hire a proven commodity). There are no other options.
