Gary Patterson to Arky?

There was a thread with a link to a newspaper article that suggested UT had Patterson in the bag but Hamilton picked Kiffin. If true, Hamilton singlehandedly ruined UT football. He got rid of a legend without an identifiable home run hire and then hired a NFL flameout that only had a job because if his dad (well, he kind of did the latter part twice) over a demonstrated great coach like Patterson. Hart either a) if he is going to fire Dooley, needs to have the successor lined up now and not let the good coaches get hired before we act or b) needs Dooley to take some act to try to restore faith in the program (i.e., fire Sal and hire a proven commodity). There are no other options.

Yeah, because hiring a third defensive coordinator is really going to fix things. Come on, only morons would believe that.

Arkansas has shown they will pay good money for a coach. (See Petrino as he made 3.75 million a year). UT has always gone on the cheap. Maybe they are trying to talk themselves into paying more. If they think about it very long, they won't have to worry about it as all the top coaches will be off the board.

That's the problem to why our program is in the situation we are in today. Tennessee has tried to live off of tradition.
Tradition means you use to be a somebody now you aren't. We have not evolved with the market. When in comes to paying for coaches to the simple things like uniforms. It's time for UT to recognize this isn't the time of your father you have to be willing to pay for GOOD coaches you don't have time to develop one. If you try to you become obsolete.

LOL why the hell would fisher leave FSU for Auburn...

It has been rumored for a while now that Fisher is not happy about not getting some facility upgrades he was promised and is looking to move on. Plus Auburn was his first D1 job and he spent 6 years there.

auburn is after Jimbo Fisher. Strong is # 2 on their board..

LWS if you have a hunch on Arkansas and Auburn's coaching board you must have some idea on ours?

I've seen you say you think we are going to target proven HC's first.

Who do you think is in our top 5 candidates.

No order but who would you think or what have you heard?

Seriously? My statement was that UT needs a new head coach and needs to be proactive in securing a high level head coach. My statement about hiring a new DC was a fallback position based on the unfortunate scenario that Dooley is the coach next year, which I don't want to happen, and was not offered as a cure all for all that ails UT football. This year's defense is much worse than last year's defense and the talent level is better this year. If Dooley is kept, do you really think that Sal's defense is going to be magically better next year? While there may be some transition issues with a new DC, surely to god it cannot get worse than this. I think it would be the height of lunacy to bet the house on Sal improving as a DC this offseason, especially since it appears that the players have tuned him out. But, yeah, your idea about standing still is a good one too.

You misunderstood me. I was commenting on your idea that the fanbase would be appeased by Dooley firing Sal and hiring a new DC. Only the absolute dumbest members of the fanbase would be appeased by that. Anyone with any intelligence can tell that Dooley is the one that has to go.

I would never advocate us "standing still" on this. In fact, I believe we should have made the move at the end of last year, or, at the very least midway through this season. The news in this thread (i.e. Arkansas got probably the best coach out there willing to leave his current job) is evidence of that.

I don't see Fisher leaving a program in great shape, and located in a recruiting gold mine, to one that's in tatters, and harder to recruit to. Would be like us having Chip Kelly as our No.1. Ain't happening.

Fisher had numerous chances to leave when BB was there - no way he leaves now, but that QB set for next season (Trikket I think his name is ) is terrible

may not happen. negotiations or desires don't work out a lot. we missed on 6 or 7 guys before we got Dooley.

Fisher does like Auburn, wife is a grad from Auburn, he is still tight with boosters, only paid 2.2 at FSU, Auburn in SEC and FSU has not made any attempt to follow up on promises made to him.

Not sure how much those are factors but they are things I was told.

I know you said you don't believe we will get Gruden, but do you think they could be trying to downplay to make the hire a surprise or even though it may be a 50% chance we get him they don't want to get fan's hopes up too much?

Alot of connected people saying Jeff Long has all but announced his next hire, and most assume it is either Patterson or Gundy.
