So from what I understand of your viewpoint, because there's not really as much oil there as people want to believe then it shouldn't be touched?

There is 26 billion proven. That is proven with all the regulation already which has not allowed us to test the area correctly. Even the EIA states that by 2025 it could provide 900K per day to the US. WE currently use 1.2-1.4 per day. That is quite a cut into outside oil usage even if the projections are correct.

And most speculators believe there is way way more up there than that.

Had a good conversation on this issue with a few folks yesterday. America in general is becoming collectively retarded and naive of important matters -- particularly among the youth. When Sheen is the top story among Libya, Bahrain, gasoline, etc., you know it is pathetic.

I will add that I watch little news or TV in general, but Zakaria and CNBC have been good as usual. Of course, very few watch either of those shows/channels, or more specifically a certain dempgraphic.

Haven't heard much in regards to criticism of the Obama Administration.

So you think there is more oil there than in Saudi Arabia.

doesn't have to be for it to make a major dent in the domestic oil price. we've seen the oil price go from $30 to $150 back to $40 now to $100 all in the span of the past decade. i assure you we haven't seen a increase or decrease in production or demand equal to the saudi oil field production.

Are we talking about ANWR?

Only a system so completely in crisis would ever consider drilling ANWR for 10 days of oil in a neoliberal world. It is preposterous in every conception.

But the demands of capital accumulation will ALWAYS demand the irrational sooner rather than later.

ANWR in my mind represents one of the small fronts in the battle for rational behavior vs the irrational as we grapple with the most serious historical circumstances - ever. It represents a fundamental waste of human capital and potential for one of the shortest gains in the history of capital accumulation.

My feeling is the irrational will, of course, win.

Under which system?

We are PRECISELY on a course to guarantee the children of today will have a substantially decreased QoL!!

And, in fact, most of you on here ARE CALLING FOR JUST SUCH A RECTIFICATION!

Sometimes I am awed by the contradictions.

no generation in this country's history has had a worse quality of life than the generation before it. i dont' see what this will be the first. but we all know walkable communities are the most important factor in quality of life. i'm sure your kids enjoy the complete and utter lack of open space.
