Gas prices

Gas prices are falling because the dollar is rising. Enjoy it now because we are about to start the printing presses back up and sink the dollar back down.

I don't think it matters all that much.

I tend to agree. I think its one of those things where, if they were still high, it would be an issue for the president, but coming down to current range people aren't paying much attention to it.

Obama can't say much because prices are still up 10-15 % and Romney could point that out. Romney can't be the one to complain because Obama can retort that they are trending down.

I think that's probably right. The only way gas prices are much of an issue is if they go super high like they were a couple of months ago ticking up over $4 or return back to the $2 range. Gas in the high 2s or low 3s pretty much takes that bullet away from both sides.

The high gas prices are just part of the problem. I think enough realize that so it's just not going to be all that big a deal.

anyone else get the feeling gas prices are about to go up given the OPs track record on predicting trends?

That's pretty much the norm now. I doubt we will ever see $2.75 gas ever again. People are getting used to it now.

Gas in my hometown is $3.04, or was yesterday.

The local news is predicting gas to fall an additional 0.75 per gallon this summer.

I hope they are correct.

Seriously. Remember back at the end of April he was touting how well the market was doing? LG basically called the top on the market for the year

Evil Speculators have oil down another 4% today and its down 16% YTD

Funny how those speculators are only bad when they move price up.

I wonder where the price would be today if speculators were never involved in the first place.

probably a lot higher becuase that would mean it would be controlled by the government

It already is to a large extent, by OPEC governments.

I think the main beef with speculators is they can drive the price up at the gas pump almost instantly, while that don't have that same power to drive it down.

He gets re-elected gas prices will be anywhere from $5-$6 a gallon for the last two years of his term. Jmo, Tifwiw, JAT, V8, VW, DOB

oh no doubt the oil market is crazy regulated, but speculators drive the price up and drive it back down just as easy

Keep an eye on the Gulf as there is a TD forming. Would be hillarious if LG called another bottom/top

What makes you say that? Prices go up fast when there is any hint of oil supply disruption, yet linger their way down when the crisis is over. Even news of massive oil discoveries don't seem to have the downward affect on futures like an Iranian sanction has upward, at least not as rapid.

I think providing some basic rules on how oil (or most commodities) are traded could help with the price volatility.

Oil was down 4% today, on zero news. Its down 22% since May on what, Europe slowing? The drops in Oil are much more violent then the rises.

LG may have called another market bottom

Gas prices increase at the pump faster than they decrease.

They will go up 0.10 - 0.15 in one day.

They decrease 0.01-0.03 in a day.
