Gator coach Mullen instigates brawl during game...

It was a late hit. However, the players from both side were pretty much just standing around after the play until Mullen charged the field. So he did escalate the activity resulting in a bunch of punches and pushing and shoving.

Let’s see if the SEC says anything. The SEC was very vocal in Kiffin mentioning the reffing and issued a public document fining him. Let’s see if they release any public fines or statements.

Mullen should be fined for his role.

The players were jawing back and forth before Mullen chased down the ref.

I get taking up for his QB, but he could have handled the situation better considering UGA is the next game.

Don’t lose a quarter chasing after a nickel.

I was at the game, sh$htty officiating started the melee. Agree that Mullen probably didn’t need to run out yacking at the refs, but when a 300 pounder gets a running start and hits your Heisman-contending, record-setting QB late and with the crown of his helmet, and in this day and age, THAT isn’t called? Especially from a crew that threw their flags about every 30 seconds leading up to that play, but then they swallow the whistle when Trask nearly gets decapitated? I’m loving Dan Mullen and every single Gator fan I know is proud he’s our coach. The players appreciated him sticking up for them, I’d imagine their parents do too.

Also, if you watch close, that “brawl” had 1-2 guys on both teams actually throwing punches. The other 99% of it was barking and bravado.

I expect Mullen to be fined for running out there and confronting the refs, but it would be ridiculous if he’s suspended for Georgia. And all of the players involved missed the second half. When Pickens of UGA got into a fight much worse than this one, he missed a half. No more, no less for these guys.
Number 18 is not a 300 pounder. He is 6"0" and weighs 205 according to the roster. Actually quite a bit smaller than Trask

Very well then...

Jaws’ exaggeration notwithstanding, the Mizzou player was well within his rights to take a cheap shot at our QB because he’s smaller than our QB. 😎

Watched it again and it looked like it flared up after he ran onto the field.. I'm sure that wasn't his intention, but sh!t does happen...

Mullen has turned out to be nothing but a thug. His actions yesterday should have him banned from college football for life! Typical Florida Gator.
Yep i wanted him but he went to Fl. but he is just a big ole puss! pissing and moaning about everything and nothing!!

Not close to what I was saying--I have seen plenty of 205 lb safetys that could absolutely tear your head off. Lot of difference between 300 lbs of late hits and 200 lb late hits. Just making sure the story stayed correct. :)

You’re right. I was on row 70, only assumed it was a big d-lineman. Point still stands, late/dirty hit, should have been penalized. Appreciate the correction on the player.

He took 3 steps after the pass and went high with the hit.

Im of the opinion he knew what he was doing.

It started with refs not throwing the flag. Mullen didn't help by charging our there i will agree.

I've got a hard time faulting him for sticking up for his player though, sorry a**ed Gator or not.

Florida QB Kyle Trask takes cheap shot from Mizzou defender on final play of half

There has never been an instance ( exagerating ) where a d lineman or linebacker tackling a running back or quarterback doesn't hit them in the sternum - Actually it's about 98 % but if you ask Trask where he would like to be hit - the chest where he has shoulder pad protection, or his knees - where he will certainly go down but may never get back up .... well I don't have to ask. It again was a late hit on the quarterback - those things happen just as people tackle guys that have just stepped out of bounds. You are correct in that the officials missed the call.

If Mullen were the coach of Miss State, Vanderbilt, Alabama, or Georgia, Tennessee or Appalachian State - I ( me ) would label him an idiot because he was behaving idiotically. There is no way to paint it with Gator juice or tinted glasses - he was an idiot. Here's your sign Mullen. When two of your coaches are forcefully dragging you back off the field .... here's your sign. When a brawl breaks out and three people get kicked out - could have been 8 or 10 ... totally as a result of your idiotic actions - here's your sign. When you insist that 100 percent of your stadium be filled with your fans - 4 days before you and a large percentage of your team come down with Covid - here's your sign.

It's a good thing he knows X's and O's a little - because he's an idiot. Also not starting Trask and having him play behind Franks ... here's your sign Dan.

No desire in any way shape or form to counter that Mullen is, was, and will be an idiot.

In this particular instance I can see cutting him some slack. If the refs do their job it's unlikely the situation escalates. Slack for Mullen being a fine and no suspension however.

I truly believe we would have hired Mullen had Chip Kelly chosen UF, like he was supposed to. Instead, he picked UCLA and we ended up with Coach Bumkin.

I don't dislike Mullen, don't think he is that great based on what I have seen - personally, I would take Kiffin and a few others over him calling plays, and yes we probably almost hired him, but he is probably a top 20 coach. If I were a Florida fan, I would be saying " That's our idiot, being an idiot again".
Speaking of idiots - LSU seems to be settling into playing like they should for the brainiac at the controls of their program.

I think most would characterize anyone who continues to start JG .... lost in the woods.

I question the logic of you Gator boys being on our boards - asking for and arguing for leniency for Mullen. :) Collectively Vol Nation doesn't carry a lot of weight with the SEC officiating crews or conferance officials. Personally, I think you need to arm your assistant coaches with a tazer so that when Nerd boy slips off the reservation they can just zap him.

The whole thing about his running onto the field to appeal to the officials - is also bull ship. He was out of control Bobby Knight style, ranting and raging and he didn't even see the play. Nut job by any other name is a nut job. That's not passion - it's just being a nut job. He and Woody Hayes should be bracketed together. ( Added for emphasis - I don't actually believe that, but it is no more extreme than these gator boys arguements are extreme on the side of leniency ) .

Cheap shot implies intent -- for all anyone knows he was trying to make a play. Missouri isn't very fast, athletic or talented at this point so --- not much need for a cheap shot when you know you are not competitive. I will give the Missouri player the benefit of the doubt. Just a bad play on his part. I guarantee Trask wasn't phased by it.

The Missouri player needs to leave Trask alone next time and take out Mullen just before the half - during the half - after the half - the timing isn't critical, and if he could also late hit Coach Pruitt and JG he would hit the trifecta. No one permanently injured, but we would be forced to start a different quarterback for the next few weeks. Where are the good late hits when you need one. ( Said all tongue in cheek of course :) )

Dan Mullen is the wrong coach to be coaching the gators. The number one priority at that program is keeping their players out of trouble. And here he is using them as his personal goon squad. Not good!

Was the hit a step late sure and it deserved a flag per the letter of the rules....but it wasn't really a cheap play. 15-20yrs ago it would of just been a football play and celebrated as a big hit by a DL.

Mullen while I applaud his enthusiasm acted like a complete nut job running across the field and starting this whole thing,a thing that could lead to his and more of his players suspension.

The advantages of big screen TV.:) I was surprised myself when they didn't throw a flag. Also understand that I walk a thin line--while I am Vol to the core-our second oldest daughter graduated from UF and my wife is a die hard Gator fan as she was born and raised in Gainesville.

Didn’t Urban Meyer coverup a murder while he was down there? Combined with shark loving and wife pimping this nonsense seems like par for the course for coaches in Gatorland.
